Diabetes Juvenil

An Open Letter to the Children with Diabetes Community

In an exciting announcement for families living with diabetes, Diabetes Juvenil (www.diabetesjuvenil.com), a Spanish diabetes Web site, joined Children with Diabetes, Inc. (www.childrenwithdiabetes.com) on October 1, 2008.

With the acquisition of Diabetes Juvenil, Children with Diabetes (CWD) has partnered with one of the largest online communities for Spanish-speaking families living with type 1 diabetes. Like CWD, Diabetes Juvenil was started by a father who wanted to help his daughter with type 1 diabetes. Together, CWD and Diabetes Juvenil can better meet the needs of families living with diabetes around the world. CWD will help Diabetes Juvenil grow its online offerings and will work to bring conferences to the Diabetes Juvenile community.

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that more than 180 million people worldwide have diabetes; a number likely to more than double by 2030. With the incidence of both type 1 and type 2 diabetes increasing, we are very excited to be able to reach more families around the world. Plus, Spanish is one of the world's most spoken languages, so we look forward to being able to make a difference for families in Europe, Central and South America, and North America in ways that we couldn’t before our partnership with Diabetes Juvenil.

Like CWD, Diabetes Juvenil will invite support from and encourage participation by all companies involved in diabetes-related research, products and services, and continue to offer a comforting home for the many diabetes families whose native language is Spanish.
