From its beginning in June 1995, www.childrenwithdiabetes.com has sought to offer education and support to families who have children with diabetes. My goal was to make a difference in the lives of our visitors. My reason was personal—my daughter Marissa was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at the age of two.
What began as a parental hobby grew to a company and is now an independent operating company within Johnson & Johnson, a global health care organization dedicated to families and children. Our mission has not changed, my commitment has not wavered—but now our ability to make a difference for more families in more places and in more ways has been significantly enhanced.
As we look to the future, Children with Diabetes, Inc., with the support of Johnson & Johnson, is committed to upholding our founding principles:
- Children with Diabetes will provide unbiased state-of-the-art, science-based education and support to families living with diabetes. We will share with you the current best-practices in diabetes care. We will highlight innovation in technology that can help improve diabetes care, and we will feature exciting scientific discoveries as they are presented at conferences throughout the world—just as we always have.
- Your voice will be heard, in our chat rooms, our forums, through our online polls, and our online surveys. Children with Diabetes has demonstrated the importance of peer support, and the opportunities to share your experiences will remain—and will expand to embrace new technologies.
- We invite support from and encourage participation by ALL companies involved in making a difference in the lives of our families. The scientists, doctors, and engineers in industry have given us amazing tools that have transformed diabetes care. Their efforts continue, and we are eager to help our visitors learn about the innovation that these diverse companies are bringing to market to help our kids live long, healthy, and happy lives.
