Children with Diabetes exhibited at the 26th Annual Meeting and Educational Program of the American Association of Diabetes Educators. We looked at new products offered by the diabetes care companies, and here is our report.
Representatives from Animas showed their new insulin pump to a crowd of visitors. The new pump is waterproof and comes with an assortment of colored covers to match your wardrobe. Medisense (an Abbott Laboratories company) showed their new Precision Extra meter which is similar to the Precision QID in appearance but adds the ability to test for blood ketones in addition to blood glucose. Each package of 100 blood glucose test strips will also include four indidually wrapped ketone test strips. A 12-page PowerPoint presentation explains the importance of blood ketone testing. The meter is FDA approved and should be in stores in late 1999. Click to see a larger photo.
MiniMed showed their new Sof-Set Micro QR infusion set, for which FDA approval is expected very soon. The new Sof-Set Micro QR is 6 mm long. The original Sof-Set is 9 mm long.
