Join your CWD family and friends for a long weekend in truly a paradise setting. The Marco Island Marriott Resort has something for everyone. Whether you enjoy relaxing on the beach with a good book and good friends, or would prefer something more invigorating like sailing or a swim in the surf, or an afternoon full of learning and wonder as you tour the Everglades adjacent to the resort, well, the choices really are endless.
For the 'down times' on conference days – and for extra days you may wish to add onto your stay at Marco Island – we are working with the hotel and also a destination company to help arrange golf times, spa appointments, and full and half day trips you might enjoy (i.e., deep sea fishing, sunset sails, sail to Key West, tour of the Everglades). Stay tuned for more info on this -- we will have a link for you shortly, and you will be able to contact them directly to sign up for those activities and times that work best for you.
Conference programming (i.e., sessions) will be offered on Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 12:30, right after breakfast. There will be a break for snacks - and to check on the kids - roughly halfway through the morning. Note that the children ages 5-17 will have activities during the morning on Friday and Saturday as well. They will work in mixed-age groups, younger kids together with the older kids. On Friday, the morning's project will be kite-designing and building, and then the kites will be flown on the Marriott's beach. On Saturday, the kids' groups will design and build race cars - out of food. They will then race the cars and see whose holds together the best (and is the fastest!). Additionally, there will be games and other activities on the beach to complete the children's program depending upon age and interest of the kids. The Marriott Marco Island Activities staff will be leading all of these activities, and the CWD Youth Program staff will be assisting. As needed - and as appropriate - the activities will stop for a diabetes teaching moment as they occur.
The Marco Island Marriott Resort is now accepting reservations for the CWD weekend. Rates are $219/night. Rooms include in-room refrigerator, coffee, safe, and high speed internet. To reserve a room, you may either book online via their online reservation site or call the hotel at 800-228-9290 or 239-394-2511. Please make sure to state that you are with the Children with Diabetes program. You must use one of these methods to book a room to be included in the CWD room block.
As of December 2, 2006, the hotel is full. CWD will continue to accept conference registrations through December 15, 2006.
For more information, contact Laura Billetdeaux at 734-428-8265 (Monday-Friday, 9:00-5:00 eastern time) or email firstname.lastname@example.org
