Hi my name is Katelyn. I have been to the Friends for Life conference with my family for 3 years now, and I will be going again this summer, making it my fourth year! I have been in the tween group, which is ages 10-12, but this year I will be in the teen group.
One thing that is really cool is that when you go to Friends for Life, everyone there understands what you are going through. Each and every person is so welcoming and friendly. I make so many new friends, and I get to see old friends every year. Many of the people I have met at the conferences each year, I still chat with regularly. We e-mail, text or call each other. At Friends for Life, you really do make "Friends for Life." It is a wonderful experience. My family has made connections as well, and my mom keeps in touch with all of her Friends for Life too!
I remember that my very first year I didn't know anyone. Within the first day of getting there I had already made many friends. It was amazing. Also, sometimes when I am checking my blood sugar or giving a shot in public, people stare at me. I feel strange, like I am clearly very different. At Friends for Life, you don't feel different. You feel totally normal, since most of the people around you are doing the same thing!
CWD has taught me a lot about myself. I know that I will be ok, and that I can do anything I set out to do. Nothing will ever hold me back! My family makes CWD and the Friends for Life conference a priority every year. We can hardly wait until registration opens for the next one!
