In the United States, motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death for teens. On top of that, drivers with type 1 diabetes are at an increased risk of automobile accidents. To help our kids learn to be better drivers and understand the importance of knowing their blood sugars before driving, Children with Diabetes has partnered with the Teen Driver Safety Foundation to bring a special Teen Driver Clinic to Friends for Life: Orlando 2013.
The nationally acclaimed clinic is a hands-on, behind-the-wheel program that teaches new drivers and their parents what to do when something goes terribly wrong in the traffic stream. The program at Friends for Life has a special emphasis on the challenges facing new drivers who also have type 1 diabetes.
The special Orlando Car Control Clinic on Tuesday, July 9, 2013 is open only to new or recently new drivers with type 1 diabetes who are attending the Children with Diabetes Friends for Life: Orlando 2013 conference. The classroom portion of the Clinic is being held at the Friends for Life conference venue, and only registered conference attendees will be allowed into the classroom and later at the driving portion of the class.
One parent must accompany the teen driver and participate in the entire day's program. (Don't worry parents -- it's fun!)
The cost of the clinic is $179 if you will be driving your own vehicle. There is an additional charge of $28 if you need to have a vehicle provided.
To register for the Orlando Car Control Clinic, first register for the Friends for Life conference, then register for the Car Control Clinic.
