Supporting Your Young Person With Managing Their Diabetes

This session will deliver information to parents and guardians on the current approaches to providing support for children and young people with diabetes and their families, within the UK. In addition to delivering information on programmes, approaches, sources of assistance and the evidence base supporting them, we will be inviting participants to share their experiences in small groups. We hope that this shared approach will help participants formulate where to go next or to find out what could be most helpful in supporting their young person with diabetes. We very much see families as holding the keys to successfully supporting their young people with managing their diabetes, whilst acknowledging that this is no easy task at times! Managing Diabetes in School

Children with diabetes spend a great deal of time in school and daycare. These facilities need to provide a safe environment for children with diabetes. This session will be led by mothers of children with diabetes who advocate for these rights every day. There will be lots of time for questions and discussion, so please bring your thoughts and be ready to share.
