Saturday was the Children with Diabetes Foundation Fundraiser Day at the Magic Kingdom, sponsored by TheraSense. The day began with a wonderful Princes and Princesses Character Breakfast. After feasting on a breakfast fit for kings and queens, kids of all ages had their pictures taken with Disney's princes and princesses.
Following breakfast, families headed out to catch the shuttle bus to the Magic Kingdom. The kids were all excited, as were some of the adults -- like Lauren Lanning and Sharon Santana, seen here hugging as they board the bus. After a brief ride, the CWD families began to arrive at the park.
Just like our last conference at Disney, many families got together for lunch at the Crystal Palace restaurant. Parents had a chance to relax, kids enjoyed excellent food (and desserts), and everyone had a chance to have their photograph taken with characters from Winnie the Pooh. CWD Founder Jeff Hitchcock had to have his picture taken with Eyore.
Ellen, Kaitlyn, Sara, and Jeff Hitchcock were chosen to be Grand Marshals in the afternoon parade. Basically that meant that they sat in an old-fashioned fire truck and waved to thousands of people who took their picture. Each had Mickey Mouse ears on, which went great with their CWD shirts. As they made their way through the park, CWD families waved and cheered.
As night fell upon the Magic Kingdom and Friends for Life: Orlando 2003, the fourth annual Children with Diabetes Conference, wound down, the fireworks behind Cinderella's Castle were a fitting end to the magical experience we all shared, learning, having fun, and becoming friends for life. Join us next year for Friends for Life 2004, to be held from July 14-18, 2004 at the Sheraton Universal in Universal City, California.
