Opening Session
Building Food Pyramids

Presenters: Stephanie Schwartz, Mike Schurig

Learn the most basic of skills in diabetes management - what type of food belongs in which food category and what constitutes a healthy diet! This is a hands-on creative activity, and kids will be making the "pyramid" decorations for the Banquet tonight!

10:45 - 12:00 noon

Managing the Highs and Lows in School
Presenters: Stephanie Schwartz, Barbara Schreiner

No matter how hard you try to control your blood sugar, there are just times when it is too high, or too low ... and you are at school. What should you do? Join in this fun discussion and role-playing activity. Bring a story to share about when you - or your brother or sister - were out of range at school and how you all handled the situation.

12:00 noon - 1:30 p.m. Lunch Break in Fiesta 6-10

1:30 - 2:45 p.m.

Getting Mad At Diabetes
Presenters: Natalie Bellini, Stefan Rubin

Some days, having diabetes just stinks. And having to watch your brother or sister have to go through pokes and shots just stinks. It's enough to make a kid really, really mad. You know what, though? It's ok to be mad. Join Natalie and Stefan to talk about it. They're adults now, but they were kids with diabetes at one time. And they got mad (they still do). There are ways to be positive with your anger. Learn how. Session sponsored by Animas Corporation.

2:45 - 3:15 p.m. Snack Break in Fiesta 6-10

3:15 - 4:30 p.m.

Martial Arts Demonstration
Presenter: Marc Blatstein, Fran Ott

Marc Blatstein has competed in international Tae Kwon Do tournaments and has earned trophies against people ten years younger than he is! He travels the world speaking to young people about having a "Can-Do" attitude and achieving goals and dreams. Marc wears an insulin pump and has had type 1 diabetes since he was a teen. He not only speaks about "Winning and the Can Do's of Diabetes," he lives it! Join Marc and Fran for a demonstration of martial arts and a follow-up discussion about learning to be a Can-Do person! Note - This session is for any age group!

Dancing with Zippora
Presenter: Zippora Karz

Join Zippora for discussion and about movement and exercise, and how wonderful it is to express yourself through dance! Zippora will share some videos from her own performances. Wear something comfortable, and make sure you have dancin' shoes on (tennies are fine). You will be moving to music with her! Note - All ages are welcome at this session, but it especially targets the teen and school-age group!
