Friends for Life: Orlando 2005 - Saturday

Saturday morning, bright and early, CWD families arrived at the Fiesta Ballroom for the Magical Memories Breakfast sponsored by Abbott Diabetes Care. Disney princes and princesses were on hand to meet our kids, sign autographs, and have photos taken. Kids and adults alike enjoyed this very magical experience, and to top it off, a very yummy buffet breakfast was served! Proceeds from the breakfast benefited the Children with Diabetes Foundation.

Jim and Chris Opdenaker received this year's Unexpected Hero Award for their last minute mad dash back to Philadelphia Wednesday night, prior to the arrival of the hurricane, to make more t-shirts in the face of literally hundreds of last minute conference registrations! They didn't want a single person to go without a bright green shirt. Being the great people they are, they insisted upon doing the shirts themselves. Believe it or not, the shirts were printed in Philadelphia and shipped (along with Jim) back to Orlando by Friday morning. Incredible.

After breakfast, most families headed to Magic Kingdom and Epcot for a day exploring the parks. It was hot, indeed, and a bit stormy later in the afternoon. However, the oncoming hurricane which just brushed mid-Florida provided cool breezes for much of the day, and heat-related diabetes challenges weren't much of an issue. Several CWD families enjoyed VIP seating for the afternoon and evening parades, and there were hundreds of green Friends for Life shirts in the crowd.

The day ended with most CWD families poolside, sharing stories of Friends for Life.

See you next year!
