Teen Day at Islands of Adventure sponsored by Abbott Diabetes Care
Teen Leaders: Natalie Bellini, Jim Vail, Chris Tull, Neal Billetdeaux and Parent Volunteers
Location: Meet at the Entrance to the Convention Center at 8:45 amNote: Teens must participate in the Teen Program all day Thursday – all 4 sessions – in order to go with the group today. We will be tracking attendance. Safety and orientation information will be presented at various times on Thursday, and it is essential that the teens have this. If a teen for some reason is not able to participate in a full day on Thursday, please have the parent discuss the situation directly with Natalie Bellini.
Schedule for the day:
8:45 Mears bus pick-up at the entrance to the Convention Center. Check in with Natalie before getting on the bus. Natalie will have a ticket for each person. 9:15 Enter the park as a group, visit the CWD headquarters station. It is air conditioned and indoors. You may leave backpacks here. A change of clothing is a good idea (there are very wet rides at this park). We will have water, glucose, insulin, and emergency snacks available in this area. 11:00 – 12:30 Check-in time with Natalie back at headquarters. Pick up your lunch voucher. Check blood sugar and have Natalie or staff record it (don’t skip this or staff will come looking for you; we need to know you are ok). 2:30 – 3:30 Check-in with Natalie at headquarters. Check and report your blood glucose. 5:15 Meet back at headquarters to exit the park 5:30 Bus leaves the park to return to the hotel Notes for the day:
- Bring money for snacks and souvenirs (CWD provides lunch vouchers)
- Bring a change of clothing. You will probably get wet.
- All teens with diabetes must have a meter, insulin, and source of glucose with them at all times in the park. Please have some identification in your meter so if it gets lost and we find it, we can re-connect you.
- CWD will post staff around the park – in CWD staff t-shirts – for kids who might need assistance. These staff will have meters and glucose, as well as a cell phone.
- At the very wet rides, CWD will have a staff person to hold meters and other things while the teens go on the rides. Please make sure to get your belongings when you get off the ride.
- All CWD teens will have wristbands. You need to keep them on so we can tell – and so the park staff can tell - who is part of our group. We will also have special passes to assist with the long hot lines. It may be a special card or it may just be the wristband. More info will be available closer to the date.
