Back to 2007 Conference Report Report from Friends for Life 2007

About 400 CWD families from around the world had arrived at Disney's Coronado Springs Resort by Tuesday, and many spent the day having some early Disney theme park time, while others enjoyed the Dig Site and the slide at the swimming pool.

Registration opened bright and early at 9 a.m., with Julia, Mary, Jo, and Lisa greeting the early birds. Conference families picked up their bottomless Coronado cups to use at the Pepper Market and swimming pool snack bar. Many thanks to Animas Corporation and LifeScan for providing these for all the kids. Hydration is so important in the heat, and keeping those bottomless cups full was the key! Families also picked up their Frio packs at registration, one per family. Many thanks to Abbott Diabetes Care for sponsoring these and helping families keep their insulin an appropriate temperature during those hot Orlando afternoons!

Within Veracruz B and C, the Exhibit Hall was being constructed by Freeman, the company that lays all the pipe and drape and helps constructs the big, elaborate booths of our conference sponsors. In addition, the Quilt for Life boards were set up around the perimeter of the exhibit hall in preparation for hundreds of beautiful, one-of-a-kind quilt squares to be displayed!

Next door to the Exhibit Hall, Chris Dudley and his staff spent the day with dozens of CWD kids at the Dudley Foundation Basketball Clinic, sponsored by Roche Diagnostics. This was an all-day basketball skills clinic led by NBA's Chris Dudley – truly a very special opportunity for our CWD tweeners and teens! The feedback was so positive; the kids just love Chris and his helpers -- and this is something that we hope to repeat in the future!

Tuesday evening, the Volunteers Family Reception, sponsored by BD, was held in the Monterrey Ballroom. While we'd been hoping for an outdoor reception, the skies opened up just before the reception, so the volunteers were all quite happy meeting each other and sharing refreshments indoors! Conference volunteer t-shirts, white with purple lettering, were handed out to each volunteer, and then everyone shared ice cream and other snacks and enjoyed the great company!
