Elite Ironman Triathlete and member of the US National Team, Jay Hewitt will be the Keynote Speaker at the Friends for Life Banquet on his message of "Finish Line Vision." Jay has had type 1 diabetes for 17 years. He is a dynamic, professional speaker who will get your blood pumping with stories from racing Ironman triathlons and motivation for you to reach your own individual Finish Line.
"Everyone has a finish line in life. Sports, school, career or personal. Something is out there calling you, and diabetes will not stop you. You have to make the bad thing that happens to you the best thing that happened to you," says Jay. "I would not be racing Ironman triathlons if I had not been diagnosed with diabetes. Diabetes is my motivation, it drives me to train and race for hours, endure the pain, all to send a message to this disease that 'you're messing with the wrong guy!'"
Jay has competed in 14 Ironman distance triathlons, which consists of a 2.4 mile swim, followed immediately by 112 miles of cycling, and then running a 26.2 mile marathon. After several years in the sport, Jay first qualified for the US National Team for Long Distance Triathlon in 2004 and has raced for Team USA at the World Championships in Denmark, Sweden and Australia. He sometimes competes in as many as 4 Ironman triathlons in one year. He is the only person with type 1 diabetes ever to race for Team USA in long distance triathlon.
Jay has appeared on the cover of Diabetes Forecast, Diabetes Health, Diabetes Positive and numerous other publications. In addition to being an elite world class athlete, Jay is a professional motivational speaker, attorney, and married with a 1 year old daughter. Jay's website and blog is www.finishlinevision.com.
