Marty Cheves - Quilt 300
Open larger quilt photo in new window
Diagnosed June 20, 1997
Marty is a happy 8-year old and is active in her school and church. She has an older sister, Shelby, and a younger brother, Michael. The last two years she has attended a juvenile diabetes camp (Camp Sweeney) and it has been a "Godsend" to her and her family. She can hardly wait for the summer session this year!
Marty was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the tender age of 3 and, even after 5 years of dealing with diabetes, she still asks God in her prayers to "please take it away." She amazes her friends and family the way she handles this disease with an upbeat and optimistic attitude. She learned to test herself and give her own shots by the time she was 4, with Mom looking on. She started insulin pump therapy (her life support system) in July when she was 8 years old and it has made a tremendous difference in her life. In her own words, "I LOVE MY PUMP; it almost makes me feel like I don't have diabetes, if it wasn't for the finger pokes!"
We pray every day to help the researchers find a cure for this disease and we pray for the funding to give them that opportunity.
A very special thank you goes to Nancy Sanders and Deanna Wilson, good friends who made this quilt for her. Their love and compassion went into every stitch and words will never be enough to thank them.
Submitted by her grandmother who loves Marty dearly!
