Kenny Strode - Quilt 341
Open larger quilt photo in new window
Diagnosed April 5, 1999
Kenny is 12 years old. He lives with his mom Brenda, dad Mike, and big brother Vincent in southern California. He loves to play basketball and dreams of meeting his favorite star, Michael Jordan. He also plays baseball, bikes and swims when he can't get a friendly game of basketball going.
We were fortunate enough to see the quilt when it was in Pasadena in 2002. Each and everyone one brought a tear to our eyes, as we know there is another person dealing with what we do everyday. After hearing about our experience, Kenny's grandmother and great aunt who live in northern Nevada made this quilt. This is such a wonderful and moving way to spread the word about this disease. Education is power. The more pieces we have, the more people will understand the magnitude of this disease, and hopefully support funding for finding a cure.
Kenny is very active in the local support group, and has mentored other children when they are first diagnosed. His whole family works with the local JDRF near his home.
Kenny is a true hero as he rarely complains about all the inconveniences life has dealt him; and he has not let his disease change the happy, caring person he has always been.
