Charles Lee is 11 years old. He just finished sixth grade at Lake Bluff Middle School where he is on the Student Council. Charles plays AAA travel hockey for the Chicago Young Americans. His team was undefeated in the Midwest Elite Hockey League and they came in first place for the state of Illinois in their age group. He also plays in the Little League World Series in Cooperstown in August. Charles also enjoys playing golf.

Charges was diagnosed with diabetes at age seven. He went on the Animas pump a year ago. Pump therapy has improved his diabetes management and has enabled him to be more successful in his various sports as well as school

Charles is trying to help others with Type 1 diabetes. He baby-sits for a family with three kids, the youngest is four year old Cole who also has diabetes and is about to start pump therapy. Charles recently made a speech at the JDRF Man of the Year dinner honoring Ron Santo. There were 900 people attending. The dinner helped to raise $750,000 for diabetes research.


This quilt was made by his maternal grandmother, Marie McCollum, who resides in Little Rock, Arkansas.
