Melissa, age 12 1/2, was diagnosed in February 1995 at the age of 4 1/2 years. Melissa has lived a very busy, normal life as a child with juvenile diabetes. She is the oldest of four children and has just completed sixth grade. Melissa is a competetive figure skater, and she plays on a basketball team and a softball team. Since the fall of 2001, Melissa has been successfully controlling her juveline diabetes using an insulin pump.
