Diagnosed November 3, 1998
Alecia Frankart was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on November 3, 1998 when she was five years old. She is now nine years old and will be in the fourth grade in the fall of 2002. This is a picture of her with her new pump friend, "Daisy." Daisy became part of Alecia's life on April 2, 2002 and she and her family are very grateful for the changes it has made in Alecia's life.
Alecia is a very active and happy little girl. She enjoys gymnastics, swimming, softball, Girl Scouts, riding her bike, and anything else that keeps her busy! She lives with her family in Ohio. She has many family and friends who are very supportive of her and work hard every year to raise money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation in hopes that a cure for diabetes will soon be found. Alecia is their inspiration and has such a special place in everyone's heart.
Alecia and her mom made this quilt square together. Her mom does not sew, so they had to be very creative. There were many hours spent cutting, gluing, and completing their square together. There are no sewing skills involved, but lots of love! It is their hope if they keep "wishing upon a star" that a cure will be found.
