Hannah Brown
Diagnosed May 12, 2001

My name is Hannah C. Brown. I am 3 1/2 years old. I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes a year ago on Mothers Day weekend. I was very, very, very sick and spent four days in the hospital. Since then, there have been a lot of changes in my life. I have to have my blood sugar checked a minimum of six times a day. My fingers are kind of tough now and look like they have polka dots. I get four shots a day now, but someday hope to get a pump.

I live with my Mommy and Daddy, my big brother Dean, my big sister Sera, our dog Kebu, and Sera's gerbil Cornflake. We have all had a lot of adjustments, but I still get to do everything all the other kids do and we all have a lot of fun. I tell everyone about my diabetes. I have a cool bracelet. I hop no one has to have diabetes, but if they do, it's okay. Someday there will be a cure and no more diabetes. That day will be great.

Mommy and Daddy made my quilt square. It's blue, my favorite color, and has lots of pictures of me and stuff I love. We go to Riverside Church and have lots of friends there. My Dad's name is Charlie Brown so we tease him a lot.

I hope when people see all the kids with diabetes they will want to find a cure really fast so that we can all grow up healthy and happy with no more pokes.

Thanks for giving us a change to put a face on type 1 diabetes.

God Bless,
Hannah Brown and Family
