It has been just over a year since Michaela was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. During that time, between blood tests and insulin injections, she has courageously endured being stuck by a needle over 4,500 times. The economic cost of her disease has run well into the tens of thousands of dollars. The time and effort to manage the disease has, I'm sure, a profound effect on the emotional well-being, as well as the economic productivity, of the families affected. I would hope the magnitude of the impact of this condition is soon realized by our political leaders, so that such awareness leads to policies which produce a cure. Thank you for keeping this in mind when you think of all the kids with this disease.
