A.J. with his quilt
Diagnosed December 27, 2000
A.J. was diagnosed in December of 2001. When he first got sick we thought he had caught the flu from his sister who had it the week before. He was taken to the hospital in an ambulance the next day and stayed in the I.C.U. for three days. He celebrated his 14th birthday in the hospital, none of which he remembers.
A.J. is an extremely active teenager, as you can tell. He doesn?t let Diabetes slow him down. He went on the Paradigm insulin pump this past March and with a few minor adjustments, he keeps up with the rest of his friends. Riding BMX, golf, fishing, and camping are only a few activities they enjoy in their busy schedules. He?s an honor student at Oak Hills High School.
Currently A.J. is working on his Eagle Scout and hopes to start with the Cincinnati Fire Explorer Recruit program this fall. He is also looking forward to getting his drivers license this fall and is planning to build his own car with his father, in his spare time, of course!
