Diagnosed April 3, 2001
Emma is a creative, bright, and happy child. Her passion is horses! She is fortunate to be able to groom and ride her neighbor's horse. She also loves her dog, two cats, one rat, and two fish. She enjoys drawing, reading, swimming, and writing. Emma also plays the violin and dances ballet. She has been performing both since the age of four and a half.
Emma was diagnosed on April 3, 2001 when she was seven and a half years old. When she was admitted to the hospital, her blood sugar reading was 1,075! She spent seven hours in Emergency and a day in ICU before moving on to the pediatrics ward, where she and her family learned all they could about diabetes and how to take care of it.
Emma has taken responsibility for her diabetes right from the start. After eight months of shots, she started wearing an insulin pump. Life is easier now, but she and her family hope someday for a cure!
