Diabetes Connection Summer Adventure Camp
The Medical College of Ohio at Toledo is very excited to present to you the Diabetes Connection. This program offers a very unique experience for young people with diabetes who are ready for the challenge of a week-long, overnight camping experience, regardless of physician or hospital affiliation. It's called Summer Adventure Camp.
This camp is staffed by a complete diabetes care team including physicians, nurses and dietitians, as well as experienced trip leaders, so that the trip is a safe yet fun and exciting experience for all campers.
A Unique ExperienceOur Summer Adventure Camp is unique. We are not just another resident camp. We venture out and take our camp on the road to provide the kids with a variety of fun, challenging and educational experiences, such as white-water rafting, while learning the basic requirements of camping in a wilderness setting.
At the same time, it enables the campers to learn to adjust their diabetes care plan appropriately for a variety of situations and activities that we offer throughtout the week. Such activities have included:
- The Beach Waterpark and Kings Island in Cincinnati
- Backpacking in Manistee National Forest
- Mountain biking
- Rafting the New River in West Virginia
- Exploring Mammoth Cave in Kentucky
- Climbing Sleeping Bear Dunes in Michigan
We are looking forward to offering yet another exciting Adventure Camp full of opportunities and challenges this summer. Our camp is open to all young people with diabetes regardless of hospital affiliation.
Program Date: Sunday, August 3 through Saturday, August 9, 1997
