Staffed with medical professional, T.C.D.C. incorporates educaitonal sessions into the daily activities by providing fun learning programs geared toward juvenile diabetes management. Using games, videos, and hands-on assistance, campers learn procedures and techniques to use daily for achieving glucose control. Rap sessions with other diabetics the same age allows trouble-shooting and problem-solving discussions providing peer support and assistance with diabetes management.

T.C.D.C. offers a variety of fun activities. Swimming instruction with trained certified personnel allows campers to complete Beginner through Swimmer categories of advancement. Other activities include canoeing, horseback riding (when available), archery, arts and crafts, environmental awareness, and outdoor camping trips. As an added activity, 15-year-old graduating campers can look forward to an overnight camping adventure including whitewater canoeing on the Hiwassee River.

T.C.D.C. provides young people growing up with diabetes a vast array of benefits. Among such advantages is the educational instruction to ensure one's ability to cope with the responsibilities of controlling their health. Additionally, campers are introduced to others with whom lasting friendships may be formed.

Facilities and Staff...
Double G Ranch is located on Lake Chickamauga, near Soddy, Tennessee just north of Chattanooga. The camp itself is located on the lake with buildings set back a safe distance from the water. The Main Lodge contains the dining hall and kitchen. Other buildings are the infirmary, central shower house, and large open air gymnasium. There are five cabins on the girls' side and five cabins on the boys' side, each sleeping nine campers and two counselors, as well as one cabing on each side sleeping special activity staff.

The camp is staffed by experienced personnel, many of whom are diabetic. Each cabin has a senior counselor and junior counselor. Each activity has a specialty counselor experienced in that area. The waterfront staff is certified in Lifesaving and CPR techniques.

AGES: 9 through 15; space available for 45 girls and 45 boys, accepted on a first-come basis. A waiting list is utilized.
COST: $500 for two week camp; $300 for one week camp.
VISITATION: There is no visitation during the two-week session as this interrupts the daily routine and the camper's education. Parents and friends, as well as campers, are encouraged to write as often as possible.
