Camp Crestfield
For more than 25 years, the American Diabetes Association of Western Pennsylvania has provided a summer camp for children with diabetes. The ADA's Diabetes Camp is located at The Pittsburgh Presbytery Crestfield Camp and Conference Center in Slippery Rock (Butler County), Pennsylvania. The program provides a wide range of activities including swimming, challenge course, drama, nature lore, hiking, arts and crafts and games.Campfire activities highlight some evenings with songs, games, and discussions by campers. There is time each day for campers to enjoy freedom from routine when they can make their own kind of fun, write letters, read stories or just relax in the beautiful camp setting.
In addition to these recreational camping experiences, children learn about their diabetes and develop skills enabling them to control and cope with their diabetes. The combination of recreational activities and informal diabetes management education, gives a child with diabetes a positive experience that will last a lifetime.
