Camp Kushtaka
July 12-17, 2009

Camp Kushtaka in Cooper Landing, Alaska, for children with diabetes and, space permitting, their siblings, is co-sponsored by the American Diabetes Association, Children's Hospital at Providence, and Camp Fire USA, Lions Clubs of Alaska, Alaska Kidney Foundation, Guns-n-Hoses, United Way of Anchorage, Aurora Productions, and Order of the Amaranth.

Camp Kushtaka
Camp Kushtaka is located on the shores of Kenai Lake on the Kenai Peninsula in Cooper Landing. This very special site provides a wonderful setting for campers to enjoy water sports, mountain trails, rivers, forests and streams, great natural beauty and real adventure in the out-of-doors.

Where Will I Live
You will live in a cabin with bunk beds and a porch that looks out over the lake. There are cabins for girls and cabins for boys. During the day you will be in an activity group with other campers and counselors.

What Will I Do?
There will be plenty of time for swimming, boating, backpacking, crafts, overnights, games, songs, all-camp activities and celebrations. You will also get to help with cabin clean-up and camp kapers. Well-balanced, nutritious meals and snacks are prepared for you by the camp cook. Sometimes you will cook out and have sack lunches.

Mail
Mail arrives at camp each day. Yes, you will be able to mail letters home to your family and friends and receive mail from them while you are at camp.

Dates and Costs
Alaska Diabetes Camp runs from July 12-17, 2009 for kids age 6-17. The cost for a week at Diabetes Camp is $400 per child with diabetes. The camp fee helps pay for the housing, meals, and materials for basic activities. Financial assistance may be available through the ADA. Camp activities include swimming, boating, backpacking, crafts, overnights, games, and songs.

Transportation
Camp Fire provides transportation from Anchorage to and from Alaska Diabetes Camp. Families outside of Anchorage will need to make arrangements to the Camp Fire Anchorage office or directly to Camp Kushtaka. Anyone needing help with transportation arrangements may call the ADA Alaska office.
