Activities take place at JCC Lillian Schwartz Day Camp at Family Park (1466 Manor Road, Staten Island, NY 10314), adjacent to Susan Wagner High School on eleven beautiful acres.
What makes Camp Independence special is its staff. Our JCC staff will be specially trained by S.I.U.H. and Sisters of Charity HealthCare Diabetes Nurse Educators using ADA guidelines in order to give the utmost care to our campers. A diabetes nurse educator will always be on the premises, and will accompany the campers on trips.
Besides the wonderful activities at the camp, your children will receive special training and information regarding diabetes. The campers will have a chance to share their diabetes concerns with staff, along with their fellow campers. Individual attention is a must at Camp Independence.
Activities Include: Swimming twice a day (except on trip days), archery, music, arts and crafts, wood-working, ceramics, dance, miniature golf, ham radio, Noah's Ark playground, nature, and pioneering.
Sports Include: Basketball, soccer, softball, touch-football, floor hockey, volleyball, and nerf-dodgeball.
Special Event Days Include: Crazy Hat Day, Scavenger Hunt, Trip to Fun Time USA and other great places.
Snacks are provided, but campers must bring their own lunch.
