Located outside of Kings Canyon National Park at YMCA Camp Sequoia Lake - 50 miles East of Fresno. Experience summertime fun through nature hikes to the Giant Sequoia trees, creating arts and crafts, learn to sail on Sequoia Lake and enjoy the fun of evening campfires. Youth will have an exciting adventure on an overnight backpacking trip, plus the opportunity to learn more about diabetes, themselves and others living with diabetes. The Larry L. Hillblom Camp is the perfect location to make learning fun. This camp is dedicated to the memory of Larry L. Hillblom and his commitment to help people with diabetes and supporting research to find a cure.
CAMP OBJECTIVES
Physical activities include backpacking, field sports, boating, volleyball, climbing wall, archery, and fishing. In addition, there is time for quiet activities, crafts, and nature study. Some basic concepts in diabetes management and control are presented. Evening campfire programs include group singing, skits, and other fun age-appropriate activities.CAMP STAFF
Larry L. Hillblom Camp is staffed by volunteer physicians, diabetes educators, nurses, dietitians, medical students, residents, college students, alumni, and others who enjoy working with children in an outdoor setting.ELIGIBILITY and FEES
Campers
The Larry L. Hillblom Youth Camp is for youth ages 8-12. Prior to the start of camp, each camper needs to have completed the Camper Application Package, which will be sent out upon receipt of the Registration Form.
Fees
Fee: $25. Camp fee includes round-trip bus transportation from San Jose to camp, meals, cabin accommodations, camp picture, T-shirt, and diabetes education materials.
