Before I forget, let me note a word about the hotel (for people who might read the chat transcript later)... the Renaissance is sold out. The overflow housing still has plenty of room - and we will have shuttles going between the venues. So you can feel comfortable making reservations there. In fact, there are already 90 families with reservations (at the Residence Inn).

Ann - Just show up! In fact, for any of the sessions, just go. If something is not your cup of tea (including the grandparents session for that particular hour), get up and go to another one. We are a 'come and go' sort of group. People always in and out, checking on kids, spouses, coffeepots, etc.

I think there are ways to do that (whole classes with DDR). We have Harold. Remember Harold? He is going to lead a WakeUp Workout With Harold on Thurs and Fri mornings (7:00 a.m-ish), and he also is going to work with the kids groups... keeping them moving and having fun. And DJ Miles will be back with the Tweens and Elementary groups on Friday.

As I recall, the grocery store isn't that close, so you'd need a car to get there. Sometimes people with cars will invite others to tag along to the store.

Re: renting a car, it really depends what you want to do during the week. If you intend to spend time at Disney, you may want to get a vehicle because you'll spend $$ on taxis or shuttles going back and forth, and that adds up. You can get a car fairly inexpensively... but then you also end up paying for parking. For my family, the bottom line has always been that if we want flexibility for getting different places, we rent a vehicle.

Also, at the Renaissance, there isn't a food court as in Disney. So, I would suggest if you are able to, stop at the grocery and pick up some snacks and beverages for your room. During the conference, we serve a ton of food... but we don't serve food at midnight, and we don't serve pizza (sorry!)... so there may be some things you want to pick up!

They are MUCH better than two years ago. However, I would still get snacks for the room, and I would not count on a fast meal at any of the restaurants. I'm hoping the service is much quicker this year, but just in case, have a Plan B.

In Bethesda, there won't be a specific grandparents track. We don't have the space for it - and the conference is about Technology (for everyone). However, I can tell you that there are already a couple of grandparents registered for Bethesda, so your mom would not be the only grandperson!

I'm going to call it a night. Marissa has just gotten here to do what I now call a "sleep-by." She sleeps here, leaves and comes back days later when her schedule allows! She has a dr's appt nearby in the a.m. This quarter, she has NO Friday classes. Of course, it's balanced by the four hour class that ends at 7:50 p.m. every Mon. Glad I'm not in college.
