Hey Loren - We're doing well, thanks. Both kids back to college; it's very quiet here! And, we are getting some much needed rain - it's a nice evening.
he ok ate a hole bag of gummy worms after school and his sugar was 293

How is chase?
We went for the first time as well! My dad and step-mom attended the grandparents sessions.
Chase is well. He is starting back at preschool this week. He will go 5 days this year for 3 hrs. Last year he went for 2. My husband and I dont receive any help from local family.

The grandparents sessions were great, weren't they? It was so exciting to see all of the grandparents learning and trying meters and pumps - what a great group. I think there will be many more next summer!
where are you from loren
When we were at the conf (FFL) he would ask other children where their pumps were. Now when we go other places he still asks older kids where there pumps are. Kinda of cute.

Loren - We're at opposite ends of the age spectrum... you've got a preschooler, and I sent mine off to college. Believe it or not, lots of similarities in the feelings!

They learned alot of valuable info. The best is they realized how hard/alone it is for me.
We have a conference in Bethesda in 2 1/2 weeks - gearing up for that one. It's about pumps and sensors. Technology.
My 14 year old just started High School. She went from a small catholic school to a large public high school

I wish that my parents and Neal's parents had shown an interest in learning about type 1 when Sam was younger. They just weren't interested. Now that we've had this core group of 100+ grandparents attending, I think the group will really grow, and they will encourage other grandparents to learn. It's a wonderful thing. Betty, Rachele, and Bruce are already working on next year's program!
I wish you could, too... but you can't do everything. Right? There are only so many hours in the day.

Jen - Are you happy about next year's dividing the teens into 'younger teens' (ages 13/14) and 'older teens' (ages 15-17)?
This past year was our first and we loved it! We have already booked f this coming year. My mom attended the grandparents seesions and loved it.

We reserved a room for my husbands parents for next year. They are the local gp's. They are the ones missing out. It really makes me sad to think about what Chase is missing.

The teens are a big group! And, with the growth that comes along with having a conference at Disney, I'm expecting 350 or so teens next summer. We NEED to separate them into smaller groups. That's a boatload of teens.

My dd daughter had a GREAT time! She keeps trying to talk me into sending her to Wisconsin to see the boy she met. He has invited her to his brother's bar mitzvah (sp?) and his homecoming!!!
My youngest child timmy was in the elemntary group hes 7 will be 8 next yr he had a blast. the people are great with the kids!
Traci, we're separating the elementary, too. 6-7 year olds and 8-9. Again, making more manageable group size. Still the same activities in each group, but Aubrey will be with other 8 and 9 year olds instead of the whole 6-9 age range.

WE both live in Tenn. We live in Gray and she lives in Kingsport area.
Chase will be 3 and will still be with the little guys!
Aubrey will love being in the older graoup, but she will be so sad if she loss Elizabeth.

It is constant texting and talking!!! I has been good for her to see how her bother will have to do things/adjust as he gets older.
The grandparents will be having a series of chats, too - you may want to encourage your folks to at least listen in (even if they are shy or timid with the internet - it's still fine to be online and simply watch). I'll be sending a note about the schedule once we have the first one set. Betty Brackenridge, and Bruce and Rachele Baccaro will lead the chats... they lead the grandparents group at FFL.

Chase will have a BLAST in childcare next year. There is a whole group of kids who go through these groups together and 'graduate' from one to the next... he'll be one of those kids who remembers so many summers with his CWD buds. That's pretty special.

My mom felt so much more comfortable taking care of Aubrey and feel like she can handle things as long as I am a call away. I feel so blessed that she grew so much with the conference.
I started the FFL conferences in 2000 so Sam could meet other kids. This summer will be our 10th FFL. He'll have finished his 2nd year in college. He doesn't really remember summers without FFL and his CWD buddies.

I know. We all worry about the day our kids leave and go to college or to their own apartments. But - we do the best we can and give them the best tools and the best knowledge... and then we bite our nails as far down as they go...

So - does anyone have any pressing EARLY questions about the conference or the venue? I'm actually going to Disney's Coronado Springs Resort next week to work on the conference and get the lay of the land. We have a LOT of space in this convention center.

We are hoping to extend FFL conferences to many different countries over the next few years. It's difficult and expensive for people to travel from other countries to Orlando... heck, it's difficult and expensive for lots of families in the U.S. to do that! Imagine if we could offer similar information and experiences in many different places, and bring the kind of friendship and family that we've made at FFL in the US to so many different countries...

I didn't serve dinner tonight. I ate a bowl of cereal (Post Great Grains Crunchy Pecan) at 6 because I had to be at school at 6:30 for curriculum night. Knew I'd be too busy once I got back home. Don't know what the boys ate.

Yes, he saw the color shirt at the AADE meeting - I showed it to him and told him that's the color for next year. It's not that far off from the 2004 color shirt (which he said he hated when I ordered it, and loved it later... but that was more a lollipop orange; this one is more subdued... not pinkish at all)

Probably not tanks. They are pretty expensive to order, and honestly, it's quite difficult to keep track of who wants what... and people change their mind all the time. Having one type of shirt makes it much easier. I am still processing all of the registrations by hand... which I really enjoy doing because I see everyone come across my desk, I think about your families, I send a quick note if you've asked a question, etc. That is important to me. We're a big family.
dawn, we are camping to cut down on costs. we live in f'bg virginia so it's about an 90 minutes away. we are going to try the free camping at walmart parking lot!@
Hi Betty. Don't watch too much t.v. during the daytime around here. I went for a 5 mile walk, worked here at my puter and mowed the lawn--almost 20,000 steps on my pedometer today, about an avg. day at a Coronado FFL event!

Well, also... it is important that our KIDS be the stars at our conferences. Having giant celebrities puts the focus on the celebrities, not on our kids, siblings, and families, who are the true heroes every day. I want the conference to be about our families - and the excitement to be about all the cool stuff we all do and learn about together. Does that make sense?

Laura, I had the best time working, well volunteering in Registration with Brenda. Especially when the athletes came in
And, I honestly have to say, much of the time I don't know until the very last minute who a sponsor might bring to meet the kids. They enjoy surprising us. And they absolutely love making the kids happy. So - no matter who they bring - it will be very cool and the kids will have a great time.
Oh - next year - a REAL Sports Central. Back in that giant Veracruz ballroom.
ffl florida this year was our first and i think my oldest son(without d) had more fun and learned more than he ever has. sorry i missed the singing 2 years ago

Loren - not sure what you mean by 'hx of chats.' We have conference chats (or FFL chats) every month, and there are chat transcripts if you want to read over them. Been doing this for - hmmm - maybe 5 years?

That was our 4th year at FFL and my family thinks it was the best by far. Watching Tom Karlya get his award was priceless!

The park day is Magic Kingdom... but since everyone buys their own park tickets, you can go to whichever one you'd like. The breakfast with the princes and princesses is at our hotel - we have them all to ourselves in the Ballroom. The kids love it.

our conference last year was me and the 3 younger kids first time in a plane we loved it
disney was great to us with the disability pass. my son andrew mentioned that when he went on sunday with some of the young adults they had difficulty getting the passes
we booked already we will be there from July 4th until the 13th
yeah at ectop they wouldnt give us one siad we shouldnt get one
see i arrive on the 5th...and come home on the 13th...

We have only been back from FL three weeks, school started 4 days later, and I can hardly believe that we are working on FFL 2009
yes i always felt kind of funny about asking for the pass but NO more FFL showed me that it really makes a difference in the insulin

Re: tickets: we used to sell them as part of the conference registration. However, it turns out that most people come early or stay later, and they visit many of the parks. So, they really want multi-day passes. And the multi-day passes have different options on them. Crazy to try to sell those when it is so much easier for everyone to just buy what they want. On the FFL webpage link to Disney, there is a link for Convention tickets. These are discount prices. The only type of ticket they do NOT sell are one-day one-park tickets. Those you can buy at the hotel or at the park itself.
In TEN months, we will be there!
it maximized our experience. we only had to hop off a bart simpson ride b/c devin had to pee as soon as we sat on the ride!

whats included in the registration price?
About Disney Park tickets. If you pay a wee bit more for the non-expiration tickets online, you can use them year after year, because there is no expiration and it helps save some money down the road somewhere.
I'm racking up those Disney points on my disney chase card to pay for the park tickets
very true Betty...actually i am going to disney in December and am considering getting an annual pass...
Martyn - At EPCOT, they don't tend to give the GAC's because most of the attractions are indoors and air conditioned. So, the insulin heating up is not a challenge. The long lines are tedious, but if you use the Fast Pass system, it's not all that bad. I actually recommend the Fast Pass system anyway, and I use the GAC only when the line is more than 30 minutes and it's very hot. Disney is quite generous to allocate a couple thousand passes to us for that Saturday.
Sarah just squealed. I ran to see what the problem was. No problem. Her Conair nano infinity hair straightener just arrived. UGH!!!! Not looking forward to that project. I would rather be at Disney World!!!!!

Betty - I did that a couple years ago. I bought 4 tickets (for my family) with something like 12 park days on it - no expiration. It cost a lot of money up front, but ended up being just a fraction of the cost for any given day compared to a one-day ticket. And, since CWD is booked at Disney for 2011 and 2013... I know we'll be back to the park on multiple days!
Debbie - thanks for the kind words about Sam. He loves to be part of staff. I know Marissa does, too. They are great with the kids. It was good to see Donnie this year.
We buy the same kind of tickets that Betty was talking about. That saves us a lot of money over the years.

Yes, we considered filing charges, but it would be a very uncomfortable since their kids and ours play together alot. But not since this incident.

When a person turns 18, if they have just graduated high school and still feel like they belong with the high school group, they may stay with that group. If they would prefer to join the young adult group (18-25ish), they are most welcome there as well.
As with prior years, a person needs to make up their mind and stay with that group. So, for example, in order to participate in the Teen Day at Hollywood Studios and the Teen Dinner Dance, they need to participate in all of the teen sessions on Thursday. Alternatley, in order to participate in the Young Adult Dinner and Salsa Dancing on Friday night, the person should be participating in sessions with other young adults. Make sense?

Betty, I left the room for two min. and just saw your story. I am shocked. I would be tempted to file charges, but understand your reluctance since it's a neighbor.
Tweens are still 10-12.
Teens will be in two groups for sessions: 13/14 and 15-17. The teens will all go to the park on Friday as a group and will have one dinner dance on Friday night. We are hoping to make the discussions with the teens more age-appropriate. 13 year olds have different challenges than 17 year olds.

Yes - elementary will be 6/7 and 8/9. All under Michelle and Lauren, with the same group of staff. The kids will have the same activities - will just be with others closer to their age.

No - tweens do not get split up. The challenge with the elementary and teen group is that the age range is so wide that we'll be over 300 kids in each age group. That's too many for the programming we'd like to do. So, if we narrow the age group to 6/7 8/9 13/14 and 15-17 that makes smaller groups. Better discussions.

July can be brutal. Or not. A few years ago, there was a hurricane that skirted FL, but brought some clouds, a breeze, and cooler temperatures on our Saturday in the park. It was really pleasant. Three years ago - our Sea World Day was about the worst I remember. I think it was 110 degrees. In the shade.
Jen, My son is at MIT and loves school, hates the weather. He hates Orlando too. He froze in the winter defending his CA roots and didn't wear the right clothes despite the fact that they were in his room!

That sounds great! Shelby is in 7th grade this year. She is enjoying school. And is showing alot of responsibility. We are very happy for her. Now if only the school would do their job.
Sarah's A1c dropped from 10.6 to 7.2 in 5 weeks. We can see exactly how the insulin is working with her food. I love the Navigator. We had moment of silence when it died.
