You getting rain in OH? Just got really windy and cold here... starting raining an hour ago. Glad Neal got back from Chicago safe and sound.

We're all good here. Busy. Sam is really busy with midterms at college. Carolyn is in her last semester at NYU. Busy busy Fall! How is school going for you?
had to go look. No rain yet, but it's on the way.
You think many people will show up? I'm expecting Rhon to give us the daily coutdown.
So much for the pretty leaves. They'll all be on the ground this weekend! I guess that's about par, though. When the kids were younger and we lived in town, we had to do a last minute scramble on raking so trick or treaters wouldn't fall!

Yum. I made a curry and just let it sit for a few hours. Neal flew back from Chicago today - I didn't know when he'd get home. It was a good dinner for that.
Stacey, he has a cough and just started whining about being achy. He's a guy, what else do you expect?
Tim starts hockey tomorrow night unless he does have the flu. Don't know what position.
Chelsea - Sam was a defenseman for the 11 years he played hockey. He'd just tuck his pump into his pads and hop on the ice.

Chelsea - Today is your 8 year anniversary? Congratulations on being healthy for 8 years! Sending a giant HUG!
Marissa was making chicken, au gratin potatoes (from a box) and fresh lima beans. When she called about how to cook the beans (we don't eat limas), I looked them up. Good old Google said don't eat raw limas because they contain something that releases cyanide when you eat them. Cooking them eliminates this issue. Another reason not to eat lima beans.

Chelsea, that really is something that you've spent 8 healthy years with type 1 diabetes, and you're a hockey player, and obviously keeping up with technology and taking care of yourself. You go, Girl!

I was waiting for you to ask that! This would be a lime green year. However, since we aren't doing a day in the park, it's not so critical to have that shade of shirt that no one else in the world will wear!

We're doing a few things differently this year - trying to tighten up the conference a bit and encourage kids, parents, and grandparents to get out by the pool and meet each other (vs having designated 'meet here at this time' receptions). The pool at the World Center is fabulous. CWD will have a cabana - easy to find us and easy to use as a meeting point!

Heather, do your kids celebrate their Dx dates? We don't but Marissa was going to. It was just a coincidence, but she and I had lunch with Julia (mom to Ethan) and Ruth Mattingly and her daughter Ellen (also type 1) on this year's D day.
I loved the purple ones - hot for the summer sun, though.

Oh geez. Figures you would ask me that, Brenda. Not sure - I will check. For those of us who are going to be there back to back for the ADA conference and then the FFL conference, we'll either need laundry or 10 shirts. I hadn't thought of that...
Laura- have many families signed up yet?
There was some snow on the ground when I got back, but most has disappeared, I waited long enough :-)
I may think about the laundry thing this time...and pack less...

I try to pack conservatively. Jeff packs like he's going to be gone a month.
Yes, quite a few. There are actually 300+ families who are on the 2010 email list... and quite a few have made hotel reservations. I will make the staff hotel reservations as I've done in past years. With the ADA the weekend prior to FFL and the July 4th weekend right as our conference finishes up, it will be a VERY crowded hotel.

How far is it to the closest grocery store?
brenda- you have all the good questions....
The ADA is June 26-28. Orlando, at the Orange County Convention Center. So, most of the diabetes companies will be there in orlando already. Those who are coming to FFL as well will just pick up and come down the street to the Marriott World Center Convention Center!
Grocery store is very close. Not a walk, but only a 5 minute drive.
Is there any type of shuttle system to the hotel from the airport? From the hotel to theme parks?

The rooms don't have refrigerators, though. They do have mini-bars. And there are some fridge units that can be requested for those who really want them.
Of course, given our history, I should ask where the closest clinic/hospital/pharmacy are! (For Tim, then me, the replace that frozen insulin)
Mears Transportation is the shuttle to/from the airport. There is also a shuttle that goes to the theme parks. It's not free, though. You reading from a list of hard questions?
Closest hospital is the same one you went to the last 6 times!
No, just off the top of my head. It's those paint fumes (been painting our dining room for about 8 days).
Our kids may want to go to a theme park. Sounds like I will be taxi driver, again, if necessary.

I'm not even sure I'm going to rent a vehicle this year. Parking costs $$ at the MWC, and we're going to be there for 10 days. If at least a couple staff families have cars, then we can get to the grocery store and run errands. No need for everyone to rent a car. Will one of you take me shopping please?
No, minibars won't be emptied. If you want to have a lot of food (which you might for Jesse), reserve a fridge. Make sure the kids know NOT to take that expensive food from the minibar!

I'll be sending the staff rooming list to the MWC by early next week. So if you want to make modifications to the dates (i.e., extra days) or reserve a fridge or a rollaway, wait another couple weeks until the reservations are in the system.
I think it just might be cheaper for the 3 of us to take a cab.... at $31 each roundtrip
that is easy it is mears...sure we will need a car/van for schleping boxes from storage to convention center.
We'll have a vehicle since I will be taxi driver anyway for our troops. Not expecting Kathryn to attend due to possible co-op with school. She won't know until the Spring.
Or the Mears shuttle. It's not bad - I've taken it a bunch of times. They have SO many shuttle vehicles going all the time. We'll post a link to the Mears site next spring.
Julia - we'll have the UHaul and the Marines (Schmitty, Tull, other Schmidt, and Marquess) to help with the boxes on Monday - not to mention the college students!
Jesse can help too.. He's VERRRRY strong

They are doubles. You may want a king room and have a rollaway for Jesse.
Hi...we're still here...The grandparents program is being revamped and should be an exciting program for FFL 2010. It's a work in progress.

We'll get the boxes moved on Monday - should make quick work of it. They are also going to help us set up the Sports Central basketball and volleyball courts. Remember how long that took last summer?
Brenda, Alyssa will be 19 by then. She'd love to come, but she also loves being a camp counsellor, so has to choose... Chad has to choose too, as he is scheduled for counselor training the month of July

You have some really nice space for the Grandparents. The MWC is a great venue. It's larger than the Coronado Springs, but there are fewer meeting rooms overall - so more people per meeting room. Beautiful space. New.
Yes it took awhile...but the bb goals were mostly left together.

Saturday, the Marines will help us tear down the sports central equipment. We need to do that in short order because we need to set up the same space for Saturday night's CWD reception at the end of the day. Dessert, coffee, and a cash bar. I'm going to stay at the hotel on Saturday and relax - no parks for me this year. How about you guys?
Yes, MWC is great...Rachele and I did an IBM event there.Everything is inside...no walking in the searing heat to get to a conference room.
Well, you COULD walk in the searing heat if you really wanted to....

Not me...had to put camera gear in an insulated bag to keep it from getting fogged up every time we went from inside to outside and visa versa
YES! Great pool bar! Where they serve really nice beverages and also a fabulous grouper sandwich (good burgers, too). There are several pools. One is a quiet spa pool, just for adults. The spa is excellent. Very nice fitness facility as well.

Jeff had to go out and get some of that fancy camera gear. It's collecting dust behind me!
I think SAturday morning, a bunch of us should go down to the pool and put our stuff on chairs. Make a CWD Central area. Leave one or two people there with the stuff so it doesn't get moved...
