Diamond started getting the throat tickle yesterday & I took her right in. Last time she got sick like that, she got ketones which made it worse. So trying to nip it in the bud for her. She's doing ok. Everybody else is fine. Thanks.

GF buffet is always awesome from my observations.
Will there be turkey bacon again? I don't eat it, but Marissa does and she loved it last year. That said, no big deal if it isn't there.

Arlene - you should call for anything special. I'm not sure how many rooms they have left that are connecting. They say they will try, but cannot guarantee. The room block is about 80% full right now. For those who haven't made reservations yet, please do so asap.

I don't buy bacon either... but I ALWAYS eat a bunch of it at CWD conferences. It's a staple.

Yes, Michele. Disney always has gf options available at each restaurant. The teens may have to ask for a manager on site if they dont see it. I will supply teen leaders with a complete gf listing of foods available if there is any doubt

If you have an iPhone or Ipod, there are APPS for inside WDW for all the rides and for the restaurants. I can ask my daughter if you need to know the name of the apps.
Er: celiac- I remember seeing something on the Disney website that listed the diff gluten free foods and which stands have them..

If Laura/Mike do not know about GF foods at MGM, I suspect they will investigate and know by next chat. There may be some online menus thru the WDW web site. Otherwise, you can check on the CWD forums. The celiac forum is http://forums.childrenwithdiabetes.com/forumdisplay.php?f=5 I will search there while the chat continues.
I seem to remember a site called ... allears.com or net and you can to there to see the menus for all the disney restaurants...and i do believe the GF is there too...
Oooh... can't wait to see Shelby's dress! So fun when all the kids dress up. I'm chaperoning the teen dance again. This year, they get the blinkie things, too (like the tweens).

"Disney Apps" and "Disney World" are the names of the apps for the iPhone and iPod. The map app is 99cents for the whole park. Or if you have a smart phone it will work too. Has gluten free restaurants listed.
How old is Maria? The tweens are a bit casual to a dress, but the teen girls dress from a semi fancy dress to a sun dress with flip flops.
Volunteers: I will be sending out a Call for Volunteers in May. Right now, I'm just assigning Room Captains. Those are the people who watch over a room all day, introduce speakers, make sure the AV is functioning ok, water and glucose tabs are in the room, etc. We aren't having volunteers at registration this year... smaller space.

Tweens are 10-12; teens are 13-17. Elementary is 6-9. Children must be in their current age groups - this is an insurance reg for us.
The Teen Dance is definitely a dress-up affair.

Also, if you have a child younger than 6, we have excellent childcare on Thurs and Fri. You must preregister your child for this; the forms are online. It fills up.
We got her dress at Ross. Just semi formal, but cute and simple. And we got the sandals too. I lucked out shopping there. Most of the time she would rather wear basketball shorts.

I helped chaperone both tweens and teens dances last year. It was great. Also prepared me for my daughter entering HS. This is our 7th FFL Conference. We are FFLifers. Best group of people to be with.
The tweens have so much fun. My daughter, Carolyn (age 23) loves being a Tween Leader. It's her favorite age group. The Tween Social shouldn't stress anyone out... it's karaoke and a really fun DJ (DJ Miles, who has been working with us for years)... they have games and snacks, and a lot of fun.
Trying to budget out for meals and such.... what is already included? breakfast and lunch on thursday and Friday only right? Then the banquet Thursday night and bbq lunch on saturday need tickets. Farewell breakfast sunday.

Disney is very much "on the ball" with special dietary needs in all the parks. My neighbor is involved with alot of this training and I am impressed with the extent they work with all levels of cast members.

Kaycee - Take a look at the schedule online. Where a meal is included in the schedule, it's included in your registration. If it says 'ticket required' then it costs extra. Also, on the registration form itself, it says what is included. Email me if you can't find it, ok?
what are the advantages of staying at Coronado besides the convenience of being right on site?

Wherever Laura needs me? That's where I'll be. I will try to have chocolate handy and diet coke. We are getting a car rental, so if someone needs a ride to the store, we are available too.
Kaycee, if you can, it's best to get foods at a local grocery store (Publix is about 5 miles or so away) for the times meals are not included. The Pepper Market at the hotel has a great variety but is pricey and can be very crowded. You should have a fridge and get get fruit, maybe yogurt, bread and pb and j (unless there are allegeries), etc. Always make sure the fridge is not set to freeze your foods. I froze insulin back in 2001.
Scott is looking forward to a day in the park with the teens...
Michele - Being at the Coronado and being right there with 3,000 other people attending FFL is the biggest advantage. There are usually some perks through the hotel; sometimes there are discounts and freebies if you'r part of the room block. There are always a handful of people who stay offsite; last year it was about 2% of the attendees.
Thanks. Yes, definitely planning some meals/munchies for in the room. We'll be driving down from NC, so will have our van available for a trip to the store

Second timer....hello everyone. Ashby(5) has her upper endoscopy in 6 days. Any Celiac parents have advice? Bloodwork revealed 2 antibodies :(
Remember that if you are bringing peanut butter munchies, they need to stay in your room. We have MANY kiddos this year who have nut allergies. I love PBJ sandwiches... it's my conference staple... along with washing up and brushing my teeth before I go back to conference. Better to be safe.
If it turns out that Ashby has celiac, be sure to join the celiac list

If you are flying in, take advantage of Disney's Magical Express. You check your luggage in on your departure straight to the hotel. then take a Disney shuttle to the Coronado. You dont have to wait for luggage when you get to airport. You can do it when you depart too.

If you take the disnry magical express- pack a small carry on with bathing suits - so you can just jump in the pool , in case your bags are delayed.
Laundry definitely gets some use by the weekend! Do you remember the year I dyed Chris T's underwear sunshine yellow? We threw in a load together... I'm not great at laundry.
From Julia's last e-mail reminder: It works better for you to mail me the pictures...emailed pictures do not print the best from my printer. School pictures or wallet size work great for individual pictures and 4x6 prints work the best for group pictures of all your children. Please no 8 x 10?s?or 5 x 7?s. I do cut and paste the pictures to poster board so send me copies you won't need back. If you have access to color copiers to copy your picture those will be fine too. Ah - thanks for the reminder, Stacey! Please DO take Disney's Magical Express from the airport to the hotel and back. It's free! All you need is your hotel confirmation # and your flight #. It's very easy. But DO pack your diabetes supplies with you (don't entrust to anyone else or to checked luggage), and do have your swimsuits right at hand!

sure will...i do the collages of all the kids...well i should say my daughter Hannah does them now...she officially took it over this year...you have probably seen the email about the collages to send pictures of your children...both D and non D...i am so proud of them...and the kids love looking at them and finding themselves on the boards. I just sent a reminder yesterday...and will send again don't want to miss anyone...so stay tuned to the Orlando email list...

Jeff prefers to have them in advance so he can photograph them and put them online. We are always afraid of losing the information sheet/attached photo(s) if there are any.
Does anyone have a non-D son, around 11-12, that might want to buddy up with my son. He thinks since its our 7th conference, he knows all about D. Let me know. He isnt the rowdy type. Can you say video games???

Kaycee, just try not to use glue or sticky stuff since we fold the quilts for storage and they often stick together.
Not I Betty... closest I have is a 10 yr old daughter and that's not close to a 12yr old boy.
You can look at the online gallery for ideas.
Remember that Weds can be a very full, very fun day (even though officially the conference starts with the grand opening of the exhibit hall at 6 p.m.). The fun run is Weds morning with warmup at 7 with Harold... and then there are focus groups all day. Most of the focus groups will require sign-up ahead of time. We post the topics in May. I'll send an email about it.
And Sports Central will be open Tuesday through Saturday... volleyball, basketball, Harold time, dodgeball... kids 12 and under do need a parent with them.
I already warned my husband that I'd be kicking his butt out of bed early wednesday for the fun run lol
