I love the first couple of days, and watching everyone hug when they see each other for the first time in a long time...
watching three 16 year old girls hang for a week with everyone else who gets it.....No one looking at them like they are strange for checking, bolusing etc.....

Rhon, are you asking about the Club lounge? We do have that, but I was not able to get all 100+ of our staff into club rooms; there aren't that many. Some people have club access, but not everyone.

Dinner was yummy... left early, though. They were all still eating. I had a 40 minute drive back and some iffy weather. We HAD to celebrate the end of the semester, though. It's a tradition!

Rhonda has to staff the (what) 10,000 steps? I thought it was 5,000 steps. Did we change that?
Just took my machine in for servicing to make the quilt panel. When that is done and it is folded onto the top of my suitcase, then FFL is real for me!
Yes. The Coronado venue is worthy of 10,000 Steps. Put on those sneakers and get to it! I bet you walk 10,000 in less than one day.

Very cool, Pam. Thank you so much for doing this. I find it really interesting what each person's 'moment of significance' is that makes the conference 'real and present.' For me, it's finishing the slide show for the banquet. That puts finality on the previous year of conferences and opens the door for this year.
I agree. 10,000 will be done in the first few days. lol.
So Laura, what shade of red are the shirts? Are we talking a cool red or a hot red?
What sort of things would you put on your packing list? What will we need that we might forget or not think of?
I always try and make the quilt panel match on the back.
Usually for us, it's the drive down, but I guess this year it'll probably be the packing & heading to the airport.
Michelle- you need shorts t shirts and bathing suits... suntan lotion and bug spray.. thats it....
Hanging the quilt is very meaningful for me as well. Then walking through to make sure that they all are up properly. The teamwork involved. All part of the experience!
The color officially is cardinal red. It's pretty bright, but has a tinge of 'darker' to it. We did the Seattle shirts in this color last year, and everyone liked the color a lot. It's not like a lollipop cherry red.
Most definitely sunscreen and bug repellant. I am getting the Avon Skin So Soft Brand. It works the best, I think.
Bug spray definitely. As soon as that sun starts going down...
Yea. This year I'm gonna need help packing. Since we're flying for the 1st time, I'm not gonna be able to load up EVERYTHING like I'm used to.

Re: packing... the good news is that you can buy most things right at Coronado. The bad thing is that the prices are exorbitant. But, you can always grab a ride from someone to a nearby (off Disney property) store and pick up whatever you need. We do that with snacks and beverages. Gets very very expensive if you rely on Pepper Market for your entire week.
Is there a way to help with hanging the quilts? Maria has been asking about this.

Michele - Email me and I'll describe it to you. We set up the Quilt after dinner on Tuesday. It takes a good couple hours, and we love tall people!

My job at the quilt is usually putting on the clips. I don't have the height necessary for the top row. Neither does Ben LOL!
Is the theme for the banquet on Thursday "Motown"? Should we wear afro wigs?

Susan - Some of our CWD young adults (college kids now) have worked with AYUDA and only had good things to say. I've met some of the AYUDA young people at AADE conferences where we've had time to chat for a bit.
When I made pancakes for Tim last week, I forgot to use my Mickey shaped cookie cutter to have Mickey pancakes!

CWD Goes Motown is the theme for Thursday's Family and Friends Banquet. Lots of GREAT music and dancing. Will be the usual small dinner group of at least 1,000.
We came without Sarah when she went to Israel one summer. Ben and I had a great time.

This will be my first conference without Neal being there. It's a little strange... but everyone grows and changes, and this is just part of it. Besides, I'll still have 2998 other family members there, right?

Saturday is Family Day at the Coronado... yes, very big plans. There's a character BBQ lunch, family scavenger hunt (with Disney dollar prizes), the bikes are reserved for CWD families... a lot going on.
How much are the after 6pm tickets?
That will be great!
Room block is 90% full. Banquet and BBQ will sell out, but we still have reasonable space (those usually sell out in June). Childcare is half full.
I think Sat. will be so much fun...no stress of getting to a park and getting on a ride...

Not sure, Rhon. There is a Disney link on the FFL home page about 2/3 of the way down. Click on it, and then look at the ticket options. There are some different ones depending whether you're buying after 6, one day, multiple days, park hoppers, etc.
We'll give you a pedometer to wear with your registration. When it reaches 10,000, come see me & you get your shirt.

I'm thankful for everyone's feedback 2 years ago... "Can we please have an option OTHER THAN a park day?" Got us thinking in this new direction, which I think is healthier and easier on everyone. We will have a DJ at the pool all afternoon, too. And Sports Central will be open for those who want to play v-ball or b-ball indoors, air conditioned.
and if you need a t shirt modeled...Rhon's husband will do the airplane for you to see what size you need...

I know I can go on the TSA web-site, but with the new full body scanners, should we "not" go through with a pump? This year we will have two who cannot go through the scanners.

Also - the Coronado has offered to show movies outdoors on the lawn by the lake in the evening if the weather cooperates. DEFINITELY bring bug spray.

We just had a trip and the TSA said the scanner machine was less magnetic than the normal metal detectors. Not sure if it was true, but Matthew went through with his pump and we have not had a problem.

Keith graduates from MIT on June 3rd. He will begin his MS and PHD program at Stanford officially in August. I am trying to get him to come to FFL, but he is trying to publish in a journal.
We'll give him computer time in Orlando. A little, anyway.

One cool new thing - we will have the Breakthrough exhibit from the New York Historical Society set up in the exhibit hall. It is very interesting. Everyone should stop by to see it.

Reminder for those of you with teens that Friday is Teen Day at Hollywood Studios. They will board the buses right after breakfast. Spend the day there... including lunch and snacks. They'll get Disney dollars for those. Very important for teens to attend all sessions on Thursday, as well as the Wednesday evening session from 9-10.
Rhonda it is bad when the people who work for some of the companies have you gather stuff for them too....

Don't forget to use "Disney's Magical Express" when you depart for your trip. You can have your bags sent directly to the Coronado. But you need to contact the Coronado directly for the airline baggage tickets. Makes life so much easier with the luggage.
