I remember being in the UK, near Leeds, at the end of May and it was daylight until almost midnight, followed by about 5-6 hours of dark.

Good Nicky - For anyone who has not booked a room yet (saying this for the benefit of people who will be reading the chat transcript later), the conference room rates are 'good' through reservations made until March 31. The Beaumont House may (they also may not) increase the rates after that because we have already booked out our room block and are currently into general inventory. So, if you haven't reserved your room and you're pretty sure you're coming, take care of that before 31 March!

Similar menus with a few changes. Going to go with a traditional British breakfast. GF menus will remain the same. I am working with staff to increase efficiency in the kitchen (batch cooking, preparing items ahead of time when possible)

The Beaumont House has a regular breakfast that they serve buffet style every day. We modified it a good bit so that we could get a handle on carb counts and not have quite so many food items out during each meal. Next year, we will just stick with the Beaumont's regular breakfast instead of modifying.

Kate - YES Jim is coming, and I will tell him that his fan club asked. I don't think we have the Kids Program staff up yet. Natalie is regular faculty, too (she does sessions for adults), so she is online in that spot. Still working on the Youth Program. It's a work in progress!

Laura we weigh. What I thought would help though would be to have 'samples' of say, 100g and/or 1 portion of each meal/food/item - so when it says '1 portion = x amount of cabrs' we know what a portion looks like. or if it was 100g of it, we know what 100g size looks like (ie...pasta or something!)

Jacqui - I've not done the youth program yet. That's a great idea. Will see how it fits in. We also have Jay Hewitt (he is our keynote speaker on Friday evening and is a triathlete) - he works with the teens directly re: fueling up in a good way for exercise.

The meeting space would be full with 500 people (that's all that can squish into the main Hanover Ballroom). I'm not quite sure where/how everyone will eat at the same time. We may need to do tiered times for dinner. Breakfast tends to spread itself out anyway with people getting up at different times. Dinner seemed to be harder for the Beaumont. Mike - ideas?

Last year, I ate my 3 day old 1/2 peanut butter sandwich from the airplane for Saturday dinner. The Beaumont has promised us that they will do better this year, and we will be visiting them this summer to get a plan in place for how some of these challenges are going to be addressed. I think that if we had, say, 1000 spaces available at the conference, there would be a larger international presence. You guys had your clocks/calendars set for noon UK time on January 5, and you reserved all the spots right away! If registration were wide open, with no limit to how many places, we'd probably get more of an international mix like we get in the U.S. (13 countries last year at that event).

Adrienne, I just sat with my big old pot of strong coffee and watched the registrations pour in. It was amazing. We are looking for a larger venue for 2012. It's not easy. We need just the right amount of meeting space and sleeping rooms, good prices on rooms and food, free or inexpensive parking, easy access... and they have to be interested in having us. Well, the major airport thing is really for our staff. It's very important that wherever we choose be accessible for your families. I like Windsor because it's close enough to highways, train, AND LHR. JJ, the challenge with Beaumont is that their largest ballroom only seats 500. So, that's all that can fit for a keynote. We need a larger main meeting space. And at least a dozen other meeting rooms for kids. The decision may end up being that we don't grow in size - that we stay with a max of 500.

Other companies use convention centers with surrounding hotels. We tried that one time in the US and I vowed never to do it again. Dragging kids from the hotel to a convention center doesn't work. Yes, looking into B'ham.

Cannot hold a conference in France because of their regulatory restrictions. Medical companies (such as all of our sponsors) are not allowed to come face to face with families. That would convince all of our sponsors not to be there. Mike and I actually went to tour their conference facilities a few years ago. When we discovered the rules around medical device companies, we decided on Beaumont. That's how we ended up there!

If you're in the mood to fiddle around online and see what a hotel has to offer, go to their website and click on 'meetings' or 'meetings and conventions' or 'events.' Look at the Capacity Chart and the Floor Plan maps. The Capacity Chart of the largest ballroom needs to be about 700 or greater in Banquet Seating (not theater seating) in order for us to consider it. PLUS, there need to be at least a dozen other rooms (not the same room being partitioned) which can seat 50-100 for breakouts and the children's programs. Not many places will have that.

Airports have horrendous parking fees. Already checked out the Renaissance Heathrow, which would have been lovely, but unfortunately we have outgrown their space, too (they are a bit smaller than Beaumont).
