I have a question... are there any guidelines/restrictions for teenages with diabetes and driving, getting learner's permits?

are you aware of any guidelines/restrictions for teenagers with diabetes obtaining a learner's driving permit and/or getting a driver's license?
It goes with the territory. I've never had a book come out without at least a couple of glitches - even when I've worked with big publishers with professional editors. Not a problem. I'll just fix them in the next printing.
There may be exceptions in some states or localities I don't know about, but I believe that in most places there aren't any restrictions for persnal drivers' licenses - unless there is an accident due to a low.. then hoops tp jump to get the license back.

do milk shoot up the bg?
Yes, milk can cause bg to rise if there isn't enough insulin to cover the carbohydrate it contains. How much milk does your son usually drink at one time?

then if it's cow's milk, it would have about 12 grams of carbohydrate, goat's milk just a bit less. Do you adjust his insulin for what he eats or is on set doses?
he is on lantus and novarapid but lantus hurts him a lot what should i do that lantus doesnot hurts him?/
is the lantus cold when you inject it?
he has a habit of munching in which insulin doesnot works
yes i kept it in a ref
MORE people have injection pain with Lantus than with other insulin. Giving it at room temperature may help.
if you store it in the refr, you can take it out a few minutes before the shot or warm it slightly in your hands to see if that reduces the pain

i have tried this also but this doesnot helps
kids munch - and most four year olds need to eat between meals - one possibility is to have foods with no carbs around that he can eat between meals without having to be concerned about amounts. Here in the states that would be peanut butter and celery, carrot sticks with ranch dressing - is there something like that he likes to eat?
As I said, lantus is more likely to cause injection pain than other insilns. Is the pain severe enough that you are considering switching to a different insulin?
dr told me to put him on a pump but he is not ready for this also
Anybody out there have questions about what the grandparent sessions will be like in orlando?
most kids resist pumps at first (adults too) are there folks in the room who have little ones on pump who can speak to sapna
there are many things here but he is not ready for those things
Hi, I am Loren, mom to Chase. This will be our first FFL. My father and step-mother live in Florida and will be joining us for the conf.
At one of the sessions at last year's FFL confernce, we learned that newborn babies are put on the pump. Doctor giving the presentation was very pro-pump and could not say enough good things about it.

No problem with "Chaser". Chase is looking forward to meeting other children with diabetes and pumps.
Hi Loren - thanks for stopping in. Glad your family will have some folks in the grandparents' track. Do you have any questions about that?
I am hoping his grandparents will get a better idea of what day to day living is with type 1. And will be more willing to have one on one time with him.
Loren, got any questions regarding the Grandparent sessions? Chase will be meeting ALOT of children. It is so wonderful for the kids to feel 'normal' ...that is most of the kids attending the conference are also diabetic or have a sibling who is.

I can tell you first hand that Betty has some wonderful suggestions to share with Grandparents exactly along those lines. Betty has also written a book that will be available at the conference, specifically written with Grandparents in mind.

Then I think their being their for the whole experience and attending the grandparent's sessions will be a big help to your family. Very few people understand the realities of living with diabetes unless they are told - and we will do that.

Loren, be sure to tell your folks to attend the Grandparents Reception at FFL... they will meet loads of folks who feel the very same way and other Grandparents who have overcome their fears and are happy to share their methods of success.

I am hoping the following year my husbands parents will join us. They are the ones that are local to us. Chase has already started to realize his cousin spends more time with them.
The book will be free to all granparents (and other extended family members) who attend the grandparents sessions. And it will also be available to be purchased. I'm mailing them to Florida tomorrow!

Wow Loren - that's so hard on the kids t notice those differences. I hope what you'll learn this year will help get both sets of grandparents much more involved. I'm sure you could use the help.
The book Betty is referring to and will be available at the conference is entitled 'Draw Wide the Circle of Love'.
I am hoping. So we will be purchasing another copy of your book to take back to them!
Want you to see what a difference attending FFL can make. Last year Bruce & Rachele were newbies - ad look at them now! They helped design the grandparents' track and are hosting these chats.
Last year was our first experience at FFL and Betty's Grandparents' sesssion, and I can't tell you how much we learned and how helpful it was to be a part of those sessions.
aw shucks Betty.... you inspired us as did the wonderful families including other Grandparents attending last year. CWD FFL is truly a part of the circle of love.
That is wonderful. I am truly looking forward meeting everyone.
Loren, do you have any specific wishes for what the grandparents can do to be more connected - besides getting over their fear, of course, whch is the most important first step.
come prepared to laugh a lot and cry a little - you'll do both

Not to be intimated by the pump
My husband I both thought the pump would have made things easier for them to care for him. Not the case.
Any of you grnadparents lruking out there, if your grandchild wears a pump, I strongly recommend signing up the wear one yourself during the meeting. It's a great learning experience.
Well that was cool - do you think you can get them to try wearing a pump Loren?
My husband even did a site insertion and wore it for a couple of days... this was something Betty offered at one of her sessions.... it really was an excellent experience for him.
Do they need a script to wear one?
no Bruce didn't
The pump represents technology to many folks - you know it's easier for certain things.. they're probably afraid to do something wrong. In the sessions and in the book, we'll talk about ways to build that confidence.. but just wearing the pump would be a great first step.
This year we won't do that in my pump session - but you can sign up to do that - check out the main CWD postings about the orlando conference
