what kind of timetable do you see for the first available closed loop system by any company?

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:13:23 Eastern US
Brian (Deltec Marketing) from 199.5.243.25
Shelley - Yes, the Cozmo insulin cartridge does lock in place.

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:13:56 Eastern US
Steve (DeltecCozmo Eastern Regional Business Manager) from 199.5.243.25
Laura, with the "missed meal bolus reminder" the user can program into Cozmo specific times in which they want Cozmo to remind them to bolus. For example, you can ask Cozmo to look for a bolus between 11:30am and 12:30pm. If no bolus is taken between those times, Cozmo will alert the user.

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:14:34 Eastern US
Michelle(RI) (Adam 8 dx'd 2/00 and pumping) from 68.9.4.48

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:15:01 Eastern US
Steve (DeltecCozmo Eastern Regional Business Manager) from 199.5.243.25
and.....the bolus reminder can be programmed for up to 4 separate meals.

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:15:05 Eastern US
Jeff Hitchcock from 216.68.227.14
Steve ... the "missed meal bolus reminder" is a great idea. When do you plan to add the food detector so it knows about in-between-meal snacks? :-)

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:15:21 Eastern US
Craig (Deltec Western Regional Manager) from 199.5.243.25
Bianca, We are offering the ability for the user to choos what drug they want....Novolog or Humulog. With the pre-filled, the user is limited to the pre-filled cartridge.

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:15:49 Eastern US
maureen (Type 1 Pump user) from 67.194.8.187
Is there a vibrating alert? With all of these "alert" capabilities - work meetings could be tricky if you really want to take advantage of everything.

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:16:25 Eastern US
Steve (DeltecCozmo Eastern Regional Business Manager) from 199.5.243.25
Shelley, You personalize Cozmo to either beep or vibrate. The tone of the beeps can be low, med. or high.

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:17:37 Eastern US
marilyn graff (manager professional education) from 12.64.48.34
Daniel, All of us would love to know that. Saw early data last year and it has a way to go. Until then, there is the personalization of Cozmo

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:17:44 Eastern US
LauraB (Moderator, Sam's mom, 12, dx'd 8/98) from 68.43.234.122
One of my favorite functions of this pump is that - if you program in a bolus, and you have bolused recently, it reminds you that you just bolused and asks, "Do you really want to bolus this much right now?" In layman's terms. Sam likes that function as well.

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:17:51 Eastern US
Steve (DeltecCozmo Eastern Regional Business Manager) from 199.5.243.25
Jeff....there are three meal settings and one for snacks. The user sets the time parmeters.

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:17:53 Eastern US
maureen (Type 1 Pump user) from 67.194.8.187
How does it compare in size to other pumps and what is the cost?

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:18:54 Eastern US
Jeff Hitchcock from 216.68.227.14
Did a lot of people use Cozmo during trials? I don't remember Marissa's endo mentioning it.

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:18:54 Eastern US
Shelley (Mom of Joshua, 35 mos., dx'd @ 20 mos.) from 204.146.85.150
Does the cable, software etc. come with the pump so that it's covered under insurance or do you have to purchase it separately?

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:19:42 Eastern US
Craig (Deltec Western Regional Manager) from 199.5.243.25
Maureen, Cozmo is lighter and smaller than the major pump companies products. Also, we have been able to retain a full cartridge of 300 units.

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:19:50 Eastern US
Michelle(RI) (Adam 8 dx'd 2/00 and pumping) from 68.9.4.48

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:20:53 Eastern US
Daniel/FL (pumper) from 4.65.204.204
when will the pump be availabe? and will there be reps nationwide?

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:21:15 Eastern US
Brian (Deltec Marketing) from 199.5.243.25
Shelley - My Treatment Assistant software is not required to use Cozmo. The products are separate because we did not want to increase the total Cozmo price and penalize customers that do not want the My Treatment Assistant software.

Tue Nov 12 2002 21:21:28 Eastern US
Steve (DeltecCozmo Eastern Regional Business Manager) from 199.5.243.25

marilyn graff (manager professional education) from 12.64.48.34
Yes, Laura, there is a feature that suggests a correction bolus after you enter your bg. it has already been programmed with your correction factor and target bg. then it also takes into account the "insulin on board" from the last bolus

And night-time is when you need to be MOST well-staffed. During the day, people can afford to wait a few minutes for a call-back. At night, you just want to take care of the problem and go back to bed!

The only pump problem Marissa has ever had was an alarm a couple Saturdays ago as she was heading out the door to go take the PSAT test. I took her with a pen while Brenda got the pump fixed. Brenda then drove the pump over and I took it in to Marissa about five minutes before the test started.

I do think that customer service for insulin pumps will need to be much more intensive than for the other pumps Deltec has made. There are so many options, so many factors re: insulin pumps.

I'm curious about the training that the new reps will have. I've had experiences with reps from various companies (and not all pumps) where I thought my training was better than theirs. How much training are you providing your folks? Will they be good problem-solvers as parents and kids learn to use these new features?

Matrrilyn and her staff have been travelling throughout the country --training the pump trainers -- as I understand things, to be trained right now on Cozmo, potentia trainors must have pump experience. They then must attend a three-hour session, pass a wriiten test, and demonsrate competency before being awarded a trainer certificate. (hope I got that right M)

Judith RN MSN CPNP BC-ADM (David, 16, dx'd at age 2 months) from 198.7.199.158
Brad will definitely need less when using only H or NovoLog. It's much more readily absorbed. His doc will probably cut his dose by 25% to start

Judith RN MSN CPNP BC-ADM (David, 16, dx'd at age 2 months) from 198.7.199.158
Val, the projected launch date is Dec 9, last I heard

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:08:08 Eastern US
bg from 205.187.139.77
He's starting with a basal of about 1.5 per/hr

We are shipping in December

Val T (Mom of Ethan 12, dx 9-26-02) from 216.145.177.142
Good, now I just have to deal with my insurance company.

Ellen (FL) from 205.188.208.41
Craig, let me know when your daughter starts using the Cozmo :-)!

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:09:37 Eastern US
Judith RN MSN CPNP BC-ADM (David, 16, dx'd at age 2 months) from 198.7.199.158
That would make his total dose about 72 per day, more if he ate lots.

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:10:06 Eastern US
Ellen (FL) from 205.188.208.41
I'm really nervous about switching to a one pump system after having the backup Htron for 7.5 years.

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:10:18 Eastern US
Judith RN MSN CPNP BC-ADM (David, 16, dx'd at age 2 months) from 198.7.199.158
I find for teen boys that boluses are usually much more than 50% of total daily doses.

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:10:46 Eastern US
Judith RN MSN CPNP BC-ADM (David, 16, dx'd at age 2 months) from 198.7.199.158
How many times have you needed the backup? You can always use injections for a day or so.

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:11:10 Eastern US
Ellen (FL) from 205.188.208.41
Z does not want injections even for A day let alone 2 days.

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:11:29 Eastern US
Judith RN MSN CPNP BC-ADM (David, 16, dx'd at age 2 months) from 198.7.199.158
For that matter, you will still have your old pump(s) I know that you've said one of yours is about to expire :-) That won't be programmed into the Deltec or Minimed pumps

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:11:30 Eastern US
bg from 205.187.139.77
yeah, Brad has a lunch of at least 125 carbs

Judith RN MSN CPNP BC-ADM (David, 16, dx'd at age 2 months) from 198.7.199.158
Sometimes you have to do things you don't want to do. That's life!

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:12:24 Eastern US
Judith RN MSN CPNP BC-ADM (David, 16, dx'd at age 2 months) from 198.7.199.158
Do you know how much insulin Brad needs for carb?

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:12:47 Eastern US
bg from 205.187.139.77
it's a 1/6 ratio

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:13:18 Eastern US
Ellen (FL) from 205.188.208.41
I prefer to make things more comfortable for him when possible re the diabetes...there's plenty he has to do that stinks.

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:13:27 Eastern US
Judith RN MSN CPNP BC-ADM (David, 16, dx'd at age 2 months) from 198.7.199.158
Wow, he's pretty resistant. I would guess he'd be using much more insulin than he is, with that kind of ratio....

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:13:50 Eastern US
Ellen (FL) from 205.188.208.41
1:6 - he's really going to be changing his cartridge frequently with the Paradigm

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:14:15 Eastern US
bg from 205.187.139.77
What is David's ratio??

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:14:52 Eastern US
Judith RN MSN CPNP BC-ADM (David, 16, dx'd at age 2 months) from 198.7.199.158
And that will be expensive, as well as a nuisance. Not supposed to re-use cartridges. Because of the lack of lubrication, an old one might not deliver accurately

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:14:53 Eastern US
bg from 205.187.139.77
Well, we're hoping that he will need less insulin once on the pump

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:15:38 Eastern US
Judith RN MSN CPNP BC-ADM (David, 16, dx'd at age 2 months) from 198.7.199.158
Dave is 1:7.5 for breakfast, 1:10 the rest of the day. His correction factor is 1:40 (For highs, 1 unit will bring him down 40 pts - if no ketones)

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:16:12 Eastern US
Judith RN MSN CPNP BC-ADM (David, 16, dx'd at age 2 months) from 198.7.199.158
Less of what he's currently using for basal - the UL etc. But his ratios for H for meals would likely stay the same

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:16:14 Eastern US
Ellen (FL) from 205.188.208.41
Good night all.

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:16:19 Eastern US
bg from 205.187.139.77
Brad supposedly goes down 20 every unit

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:16:51 Eastern US
Judith RN MSN CPNP BC-ADM (David, 16, dx'd at age 2 months) from 198.7.199.158
Night, Ellen

Judith RN MSN CPNP BC-ADM (David, 16, dx'd at age 2 months) from 198.7.199.158
Does Brad already have his Paradigm?

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:17:58 Eastern US
bg from 205.187.139.77
Yes, but he doesn't have his training till thursday

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:19:25 Eastern US
Judith RN MSN CPNP BC-ADM (David, 16, dx'd at age 2 months) from 198.7.199.158
Does sound like the small reservoir will be a nuisance for him. That's the main drawback of that pump.

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:20:23 Eastern US
bg from 205.187.139.77
Oh well, he likes needles!!! OR SO HE SAYS

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:20:46 Eastern US
Judith RN MSN CPNP BC-ADM (David, 16, dx'd at age 2 months) from 198.7.199.158
He won't have to change the site every time he changes the reservoir.

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:21:27 Eastern US
Judith RN MSN CPNP BC-ADM (David, 16, dx'd at age 2 months) from 198.7.199.158
Sorry to run out on you, but time for me to go. Good luck to Brad. Catch you another time.....

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:21:34 Eastern US
bg from 205.187.139.77
Well, is it a good idea, he already has a lot of scar tissue

Tue Nov 12 2002 22:21:47 Eastern US
bg from 205.187.139.77
SEE YA
