Absolutely nuts here. This week - with registration ending Friday - is crazy. At least the weather is nice. I go outside and weed the yard when I need a break! LOL

Registered User Pam L. Sarah  (71.198.2.253) Tue Jun 27 08:55:42 PM EDT 2006
I have been trying to get into shape before we head to Orlando by walking a few miles every morning.

Registered User Pam L. Sarah  (71.198.2.253) Tue Jun 27 08:55:59 PM EDT 2006
Hi Rhon! Can't wait to see you in Orlando!

I am I am! It's been approved all the way to the BC, he's the last to sign off on it.

Registered User EmeeSu Matthews Mom  (24.28.8.245) Tue Jun 27 08:56:06 PM EDT 2006
hi I am new to this site. I looked into Orlando, but we can't swing it financially this year. Is Marco in 2007 similar?

Registered User Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam and Carolyn's mom  (66.82.9.59) Tue Jun 27 08:56:34 PM EDT 2006
You're funny, Pam. Afraid the kids are going to run you ragged?

Registered User R Mama of Diamond, 12 in 4 days, dx'd @ 9, NC  (76.0.183.203) Tue Jun 27 08:56:43 PM EDT 2006
Bob says it "should" get approved. I think so too.

Registered User Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam and Carolyn's mom  (66.82.9.59) Tue Jun 27 08:57:24 PM EDT 2006
Hi EmeeSu - Sorry you can't come this year (maybe next summer in Orlando at Disney?). Marco is a very different conference; about 250 people as opposed to this summer's 2,000.

Registered User Joanne Mom to Ben (18); FFL Faculty Moderator  (66.75.158.32) Tue Jun 27 08:57:38 PM EDT 2006
So Laura - all ready for July? We are counting the days  Cool

Registered User Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam and Carolyn's mom  (66.82.9.59) Tue Jun 27 08:57:58 PM EDT 2006
btw, some people think the 250 is better. I like them both; they are very different types of conferences. The registration is up for Marco - early registration prices.

Registered User Pam L. Sarah  (71.198.2.253) Tue Jun 27 08:58:03 PM EDT 2006
Nope, I teach Kindergarten. It is the heat that usually poops me out. I thought if I got a head start on the walking I would manage to keep up with the group.

Registered User Lauren Elementary Program Leader  (68.36.146.167) Tue Jun 27 08:58:03 PM EDT 2006
hi all :-)

Pam, D & I walk over a mile everyday, doesn't do much for us, but makes me feel better.

Registered User Laurie Mom of Corbin, 11, pumper dx'd @ 8  (69.171.192.85) Tue Jun 27 08:58:17 PM EDT 2006

Registered User Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam and Carolyn's mom  (66.82.9.59) Tue Jun 27 08:58:34 PM EDT 2006
I'm counting the days and getting ulcers! The kids refer to these weeks before the conference as "mom's grumpy time". Who, ME? Eek

Registered User EmeeSu Matthews Mom  (24.28.8.245) Tue Jun 27 08:58:45 PM EDT 2006

Registered User R Mama of Diamond, 12 in 4 days, dx'd @ 9, NC  (76.0.183.203) Tue Jun 27 08:59:11 PM EDT 2006
Laura, I went over our groups again the other day. We only had to "sign up" for Wednesday, right? The other days we can just go to?

Registered User Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam and Carolyn's mom  (66.82.9.59) Tue Jun 27 08:59:33 PM EDT 2006
My town is 2,000 too, Laurie. It's a LOT of people at the conference. Half are kids. Very fun.
Hey Lauren! Still at the beach?

Registered User Pam L. Sarah  (71.198.2.253) Tue Jun 27 08:59:50 PM EDT 2006
Before dx I walked 5 miles a day and was significantly thinner. The night checks and work made it tougher to keep up. I am on a roll right now.

Registered User Joanne Mom to Ben (18); FFL Faculty Moderator  (66.75.158.32) Tue Jun 27 08:59:50 PM EDT 2006
I can't believe you're grumpy  Grin  they should know it'as all worth it....I know Ben is counting the days.

Registered User Pam L. Sarah  (71.198.2.253) Tue Jun 27 09:00:11 PM EDT 2006

Registered User Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam and Carolyn's mom  (66.82.9.59) Tue Jun 27 09:00:14 PM EDT 2006
Correct re: signing up. Just for focus groups (and there is still room left in several). Thurs and Fri - just go. If you don't like a session, move and go to a different one.

Hi Mare!

Hi Shelley - During the day he should be fine. When outdoors in the heat, I strongly urge you to change out the cartridge and tubing every evening. Have fresh insulin. It really deteriorates in the heat.

Ok, everyone quit talking about Stacey.
Re: the athletes - they will be spending quite a bit of time in the exhibit hall. So, if your child doesn't get a lot of personal time talking or playing with the athlete, make sure to stop by the sponsoring company. For example, Gary Hall will be at the BD booth. Kris Freeman will be at both LifeScan and Lilly. Will Cross will be at Novo Nordisk. Jay Leeuwenberg will be at DESA.

Gary Hall is not swimming with the kids this year. He did that in prior years with LifeScan. Not entirely sure what he'll be doing with BD beyond visiting with the kids at the booth.

Hi Val  Smile
Re: having a car for Disney, we always get one, and we rarely use it. But the couple of times we haven't had one, we wished we did. I've waited for the bus a few times for nearly an hour and finally just took the car. The pain is that the bus drops you off right at the entrance. Parking can be a bit difficult, i.e., you park at Transportation and Ticket Center for Magic Kingdom and have to take a tram to Magic Kingdom. If you take the bus, it drops you right in front of Main Street.

Yea, Pam, I'm hoping Diamond comes away with tons of friends! Everybody likes Diamond, she's very easy to get along with, but sometimes she is shy & sometimes not, so we'll see.

That's ok, Val.  Smile  We had plenty of volunteers (over 100) and I streamlined things just a little this year. One of the very nice things this year is that our 'graduating kids' (i.e., those in college) are helping with the elementary and tweener sessions. There are about a dozen or so of these 18 and 19 year olds. Ready made help. With energy.  Grin

Bracelets - All kids will need to wear a colored bracelet. They are Tyveks, and we have enough so they can have a fresh bracelet each day (I know they get grungy). The green bracelets are for those kiddos (and adults) with type 1. Orange is for sibs/friends. Registered User Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam and Carolyn's mom  (66.82.9.59) Tue Jun 27 09:57:25 PM EDT 2006
Yes, when you check in and pick up your registration packet, the person will ask you how many kids have type 1 in your family and how many don't. YOu'll get the bracelets right then and there. If you need more later, come back to registration. The bracelets are a quick and easy way for us to tell 'who is ours' (as there will be some other guests in the hotel and at Sea World) and take action if it looks like a child isn't feeling well. We'll ask our adults with type 1 to wear bracelets, too.

Help! Sara just had a dr appt. and he told us that her blood sugar was consistently too high, (in the 150's) so in order to check and see if her basal rate needs to be adjusted, first she has to give herself the correct bolus for her meal, eat, & then fast for 4 hours, then check her blood sugar....well, what then? I've looked all through the info they gave us and I can't find a paper on it (she was diagnosed last Nov. and has only had her pump since March... we were trained in this, but have never had to do it and I simply can not remember the next step! Help! Terri
