The Denmark trip was at the invitation of Maersk Medical, with whom CWD has been working (on various projects) for a number of years. It is really our first "international invitation" and we hope it opens the door to many others, that perhaps other teens and families can share and experience!

To answer how we were invited, CWD has been helping Maersk Medical learn about insulin pump infusion sets. We've run surveys for them and several of their people have attended our conferences. They invited a couple of us -- those they knew -- to come to Denmark to meet their company and learn more.

Tue Oct 15 2002 21:13:16 Eastern US
Laura B (Sam's mom (12)) from 68.43.234.122
In fact... it would be very cool if the teens online right now could put together some kind of "international message" that we could bring to Denmark when we go next month. We will be meeting with other teens and their families, and discussing the challenges that we face from the teen's perspectives, the parent's perspective, and families in general. It should be very, very interesting and educational.

I know the chats are kind of hard to follow with so many people talking at once - and some know each other while others don't - it's helpful if you go to the chat archives later (like tomorrow or later in the week) and re-read it. You can scroll up and down and it's easier to follow the conversational threads that way. Hard to follow right now with ideas flying all over! Exciting though!

I coordinate the CWD conferences as part of my job, and we are discussing how to bring the IDYAs together at the conference. This summer from July 9-12 is the conference at Disney World; it would be neat if the IDYAs could gather as part of that.

Clare Rosenfeld (IDYA Age 16) from 67.250.105.65
Christina, at the CWD national conference in Orlando in July, we will have our own special session. If any of us cannot afford to get there, why don't we start a fund raising campaign to help each other get there?

Lianna (11 , from Michigan) from 68.43.116.167
we could even bring a friend to the confrence!

Tue Oct 15 2002 21:42:03 Eastern US
Laura B (Sam's mom (12)) from 68.43.234.122
A Teen Conference by itself would be difficult to do for a number of reasons. However, our conferences do have an entire teen section - that is, you have your own mini-conference as part of the overall 5 days. Your own speakers, your own room, etc. Plus your own social events (teen dance, teens getting together at Disney).

Tue Oct 15 2002 21:42:08 Eastern US
Marissa (15, dx'd 2) from 216.68.227.14

Clare Rosenfeld (IDYA Age 16) from 67.250.105.65

Tue Oct 15 2002 21:48:05 Eastern US
Laura B (Sam's mom (12)) from 68.43.234.122
We'd need special permission from disney to tape ANYthing on site there. That would be part of my job to find out. If in fact we want to pursue that avenue. It's very expensive, as well, so I'd need to find a sponsor (probably wouldn't be too hard).

Sam, right now we just need to get more people to write to Oprah to get her attention. Evie, you have to get on her website. It's to the show.

Tue Oct 15 2002 21:49:17 Eastern US
Laura B (Sam's mom (12)) from 68.43.234.122
Sorry - I'm not trying to squash the taping ideas - it's just that disney has very very strict guidelines about who does what when where and how. It would need to be professionally taped and under a contract... but that doesn't mean that it can't be done. It's just a little trickier. :-)

Tue Oct 15 2002 21:49:18 Eastern US
Clare Rosenfeld (IDYA Age 16) from 67.250.105.65
