Hi Everyone - It's still a bit early, but I'm here (actually popping back and forth between here and the parents chat) - say hi when you're on! Smile

Hey Heather! How are you doing tonight?

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 08:51:30 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Thank you for doing that. I talked to him for about 20 minutes. He was more overwhelmed by the celiac than he was by diabetes. Do you feel that way sometimes?

Heather Mom blessed with two, BC Canada  (209.52.93.56) Tue Feb 24 08:52:03 PM GMT-05:00 2004
definately, food is the centre of our life

Ellen (FL) Zack 16  (64.12.96.6) Tue Feb 24 08:53:27 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Hi.

Ellen (FL) Zack 16  (64.12.96.6) Tue Feb 24 08:53:56 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Laura, will there be any special session on celiac at this year's conference?

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 08:54:02 PM GMT-05:00 2004
I'm going to start working on the menus for LA next week. I'll get the basics set up, then I'd like you and Mike (and Bonnie and whoever else) to look at the selections and see what else we need for those with celiac.

Allison Sevaun, 6 dx'd @ 3; daughter to Jean, dx'd 1949  (207.213.88.135) Tue Feb 24 08:54:52 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Hi

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 08:55:23 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Hi Ellen - No special session, although I think maybe we'll do a Birds of a Feather session for families with celiac on Friday afternoon. I'm really just trying to integrate good gluten-free food options into every meal and snack. Heather and some others are helping me. I'm really bad at picking gluten-free menus (as Heather can attest to, unfortunately!). Rolling Eyes

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 08:55:45 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Hi Allison. How are you? Smile

Allison Sevaun, 6 dx'd @ 3; daughter to Jean, dx'd 1949  (207.213.88.135) Tue Feb 24 08:56:02 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Doing great, Laura. How's it going with you?

Ellen (FL) Zack 16  (64.12.96.6) Tue Feb 24 08:56:22 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Maybe we can plan one for FLA2005?

Heather Mom blessed with two, BC Canada  (209.52.93.56) Tue Feb 24 08:56:23 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Allison, are you dealing with celiac at home?

Heather Mom blessed with two, BC Canada  (209.52.93.56) Tue Feb 24 08:56:43 PM GMT-05:00 2004
sorry Allison, should have asked Ellen :)

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 08:57:26 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Sure. That's a good idea (celiac session). I'm fine, thanks, Allison. Freezing, actually. Just had a cup of cocoa and I have a hot water bottle on my lap. And the heat turned way up. Can't get warm today!

Brenda H. mom of Marissa, dx'd 9.89  (216.68.227.252) Tue Feb 24 08:58:00 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Good evening all. Just joining you.

Allison Sevaun, 6 dx'd @ 3; daughter to Jean, dx'd 1949  (207.213.88.135) Tue Feb 24 08:58:18 PM GMT-05:00 2004
We actually are having winter here now. It's rained a bit and been in the 50's the past week. LOL

Ellen (FL) Zack 16  (64.12.96.6) Tue Feb 24 08:58:40 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Heather, I'm not dealing with celiac, but have read a lot about it this year...seems to be getting more press..and lots more children being diagnosed. Maybe the makers of the M2A Pill (Given Imaging) would like to be a sponsor of the conference!

Allison Sevaun, 6 dx'd @ 3; daughter to Jean, dx'd 1949  (207.213.88.135) Tue Feb 24 08:58:46 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Hi, Brenda

Ellen (FL) Zack 16  (64.12.96.6) Tue Feb 24 08:59:00 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Hi Brenda.

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 08:59:12 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Well, I hope we get really good at offering gluten-free meals and some decent sessions on celiac. When I spoke with Frank today (a gentleman from Alaska whose type 1 daughter was just dx'd with celiac), he said their family was very hesitant to travel more because of the celiac than the diabetes (not to mention the toddler in tow).

Julia/A2angelmom Ethans Mom...dx @10mo now 6  (205.188.208.6) Tue Feb 24 08:59:38 PM GMT-05:00 2004

Hey Julia! Ready to hang some quilts?

Heather Mom blessed with two, BC Canada  (209.52.93.56) Tue Feb 24 09:00:08 PM GMT-05:00 2004
eating out PERIOD is difficult when dealing with celiac

Julia/A2angelmom Ethans Mom...dx @10mo now 6  (205.188.208.6) Tue Feb 24 09:01:04 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Hey Laura...i am ready to hang but i thought i was ironing first

Brenda H. mom of Marissa, dx'd 9.89  (216.68.227.252) Tue Feb 24 09:01:56 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Heather, do your kids have celiac? Marissa doesn't but I know more and more kids are being dx'd with it.

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:02:11 PM GMT-05:00 2004
So, Ellen, you were asking in the parents room 'what was new.' I'm not sure if I mentioned this in the last chat, but we're going to have equipment for retinal scanning at the conference (and appropriate staff to run them)... so our kids will get to have retinal scans and see what their eyes look like. This will be combined with sessions by Paul Chous for adults, kids, and teens (different levels, obviously). I think it's going to be a really great addition to the conference.

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:02:50 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Julia - aren't you arriving on Sunday? You have 3 days to iron before we hang quilt squares...  Razz

Heather Mom blessed with two, BC Canada  (209.52.93.56) Tue Feb 24 09:02:53 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Chad does, Alyssa doesn't (yet)

Ruth   (12.223.118.40) Tue Feb 24 09:03:00 PM GMT-05:00 2004
hi gang

Allison Sevaun, 6 dx'd @ 3; daughter to Jean, dx'd 1949  (207.213.88.135) Tue Feb 24 09:03:15 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Do we have to sign up for the retinal scan or is that something just open to anyone at a certain time?

Ellen (FL) Zack 16  (64.12.96.6) Tue Feb 24 09:03:21 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Wow, that's fabulous!

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:03:39 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Heather, how long are you all going to be in L.A. Are you doing any sightseeing while in CA?

Brenda H. mom of Marissa, dx'd 9.89  (216.68.227.252) Tue Feb 24 09:03:52 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Has Alyssa been tested to see if see has the genetic marker for it? Assuming you can be tested.

Hi Everyone

Laura...i am arriving Monday early morning...so that will be just 2 days

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:04:25 PM GMT-05:00 2004
There will be a sign-up for the retinal scans. We'll actually have it in a side room away from the main sessions and exhibits (so it's quiet and private, etc.).

Heather Mom blessed with two, BC Canada  (209.52.93.56) Tue Feb 24 09:04:48 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Alyssa has been tested annually, just did another last week (will get results in 2 weeks)

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:05:00 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Oh, that's right, Julia. Only two days? You'll be iron deprived.

Heather Mom blessed with two, BC Canada  (209.52.93.56) Tue Feb 24 09:05:00 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Laura, we are doing 5 days in San Diego after the conference

Julia/A2angelmom Ethans Mom...dx @10mo now 6  (205.188.208.6) Tue Feb 24 09:05:23 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Ok color me stupid here but what will the retinal scans show? And should i have Ethan scanned?

Julia/A2angelmom Ethans Mom...dx @10mo now 6  (205.188.208.6) Tue Feb 24 09:05:56 PM GMT-05:00 2004

Laura, my plans are to arrive in LA the end of June if you need anything!

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:06:56 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Heather - no way! We are, too! Actually, a few families have rented condos in San Diego. We're going to sit on the beach and relax. Let's trade cell phone #s when we're there!

Brenda H. mom of Marissa, dx'd 9.89  (216.68.227.252) Tue Feb 24 09:06:57 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Our ophthalmologist doesn't do the scans and doesn't feel they are necessary until you suspect retinopathy. Nonetheless, Marissa will get one.
He stepped away--must be a page about it. I'll look...

Julia/A2angelmom Ethans Mom...dx @10mo now 6  (205.188.208.6) Tue Feb 24 09:07:08 PM GMT-05:00 2004

Hey Missi - Thanks! I might. Let me know where you'll be (when we get closer)... I ship a lot of stuff out there pre-conference and like to have someone I know watching over it (vs being stored in hotel storage space someplace)

Brenda H. mom of Marissa, dx'd 9.89  (216.68.227.252) Tue Feb 24 09:08:38 PM GMT-05:00 2004

Sure will! Current plans are to arrive right after diabetes Camp. I will let you know.

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:09:40 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Sam hasn't had one done either - but we will. These are to show the kids what their healthy eyes look like (that's the name of Dr. Chous' session, btw). He's going to also show them what UNhealthy eyes look like in his presentation. So, the point of the scan isn't really to find abnormalities in your kids - it's to introduce them to the test and show them what their healthy eyes look like in a scan.

Ellars Sam's Mom  (198.81.26.6) Tue Feb 24 09:10:11 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Are there going to be lot of things for the teens to do and can my son sing or dance with his twin?

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:10:12 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Hey Lauren - You made it! Did you speed back from dance class?

Lauren Volunteer Coordinator  (63.227.13.133) Tue Feb 24 09:11:12 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Hey Laura! I sent steve to get her! Husbands are good for something!

Brenda H. mom of Marissa, dx'd 9.89  (216.68.227.252) Tue Feb 24 09:11:24 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Maybe Lauren "tapped" her way home.  Grin  Of course, I suppose she was taxi mom for the girls.

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:11:40 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Tons of stuff for the teens to do. Thurs and Fri sessions are online, but that's just scratching the surface. The teens do lots of social things together (chaperoned, usually by Natalie Bellini and Melissa Ringley, who are the notorious leaders of teen activities at all of our conferences). They often wait until the last minute to decide where to go and what to do - they like to go with the flow on what the kids feel like doing. I'm very comfortable with the process.

Brenda H. mom of Marissa, dx'd 9.89  (216.68.227.252) Tue Feb 24 09:13:10 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Ellars, how old is your Sam?

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:13:33 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Ellars, your question about singing and dancing with his twin... what did you have in mind? (or should I ask?)

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:14:11 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Lauren, are you starting a master list of volunteers sometime soon... and how would you like people to contact you?

Ellen (FL) Zack 16  (64.12.96.6) Tue Feb 24 09:14:17 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Laura, you should contact http://www.utilikilts.com/ and see if they want to be a sponsor...let them know that Brother is performing etc.

Heather Mom blessed with two, BC Canada  (209.52.93.56) Tue Feb 24 09:14:29 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Laura, what's available for airport transfers?

Ellars Sam's Mom  (198.81.26.6) Tue Feb 24 09:14:29 PM GMT-05:00 2004
We live here in LA so there won't be to many activities that they haven't done such as D-land, Knott's, Beach ect. but They will have fun with the kids.

I have twin boys that are 16, only one with D.

Brenda H. mom of Marissa, dx'd 9.89  (216.68.227.252) Tue Feb 24 09:15:03 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Reminds me that Timothy has to write a couple of paragraphs about an "unusual" person he has met. I suggested Hamish. How many of his classmates have met a didge playing kilt wearer?  LOL

Ellen (FL) Zack 16  (64.12.96.6) Tue Feb 24 09:16:13 PM GMT-05:00 2004
That's a great suggestion Brenda...did Timothy go for it?

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:16:14 PM GMT-05:00 2004
For airport transfers, take the Super Shuttle. It goes right to the hotel and isn't expensive. You just buy a shuttle ticket right there by baggage. There are a lot of vans, so you don't have to wait long. That's what my family is doing. They go to LAX and Burbank airports.

Lauren Volunteer Coordinator  (63.227.13.133) Tue Feb 24 09:16:29 PM GMT-05:00 2004
I am keeping names, but no firm assignments yet. I usually get a bit more organized 1-2 months out

Ellars Sam's Mom  (198.81.26.6) Tue Feb 24 09:16:56 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Laura, Sam and his brother attend CCA (California Conservitory of the Arts) and love to sing show tunes as well as oldies.

Brenda H. mom of Marissa, dx'd 9.89  (216.68.227.252) Tue Feb 24 09:17:06 PM GMT-05:00 2004
No, he did not Ellen. He has one more day to work on it and is procrastinating.

Missi Mom of Rachel, 6, dxd 18mo  (66.25.196.195) Tue Feb 24 09:17:18 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Add me to your list Lauren. Hopefully there won't be snow and ice to contend with!

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:17:29 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Ellars, it's a different level of fun, though, when you are the expert on a place. I imagine your kids will have fun showing our kids around CityWalk or Universal. That's how my kids feel about Disney - been there lots of times, but the real fun is in showing your friends your favorite places.

Brenda H. mom of Marissa, dx'd 9.89  (216.68.227.252) Tue Feb 24 09:17:53 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Well, there are several 15-16 year old girls who'd probably be willing to dance with them, not show tunes, but at the Teen Dance.

Lauren Volunteer Coordinator  (63.227.13.133) Tue Feb 24 09:18:24 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Thanks Missi! And if there is snow or ice... I am really going to take it personally!!!

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:18:25 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Aha! I sense karaoke coming... (probably way below CCA quality... but we do have teens who love to sing...) Email me, Ellars, and I'll hook you up with Natalie and Melissa, and we'll see what we can do...

Heather Mom blessed with two, BC Canada  (209.52.93.56) Tue Feb 24 09:19:10 PM GMT-05:00 2004
has anybody looked at the Focus Groups yet? Any input?

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:19:26 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Lauren, I'm just asking about volunteers because people are emailing me, and I'm sending them along to you.

Wendi Mom with T1 son 11  (24.50.77.70) Tue Feb 24 09:19:51 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Laura, are any of the focus groups going to be on the real "meat and potatoes" of diabetes? Or are they all going to be given by reps who want to sell you their latest pump? He's just using the old-fashioned style of N $ H with wonderful success. I'd like to attend a focus group that concentrates on what it really FEELS like to have diabetes, so I can understand my son better.
Wendi

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:20:24 PM GMT-05:00 2004
I think the focus groups will be worthwhile... just wish some of the companies would give me their topics asap!

Brenda H. mom of Marissa, dx'd 9.89  (216.68.227.252) Tue Feb 24 09:20:34 PM GMT-05:00 2004
By the way, Laura, you got a piece of mail sent here today. I had to chuckle. It's like a large postcard and says "MORE Than You EXPECTED." Omaha, Experience Omaha.
How's that for a regional conference, downtown Omaha, Nebraska. (Apologies to anyone from Nebraska)

JoAnn Mom of Luke, 5 1/2,dx'd at 4  (24.45.233.193) Tue Feb 24 09:21:32 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Hi Laura- I hope you got our registration this weekend!
Looking forward to our 1st conference with you!

Lauren Volunteer Coordinator  (63.227.13.133) Tue Feb 24 09:22:04 PM GMT-05:00 2004
I am keeping all the names! I just have no schedule as of yet. Right now I need to line up the main people, my coordinators.... anyone here interested in taking on a more involved position such as making sure all of our moderators are accounted for and have their introductions? Or coordinating the childcare runners (is amy mcneeley coming?)

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:22:23 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Wendi, the focus groups are more about current products and those being developed. It's an opportunity for companies to hear what we think and for us to see what's coming down the pike product-wise. What you're after is the sessions (go to anything by Richard Rubin or Betty Brackenridge) and the poolside talk. Dr. Rubin is doing a talk called Overcoming Diabetes Overwhelmus. It's tremendous.

Laura, I'm really struggling with whether or not to go. What ages are good to bring, ie: the kids will have fun and not be too much of a pain in the tooshie? Rolling Eyes

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:24:57 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Amy and her family came on the CWD cruise over New Year's. She looks fabulous.

Catherine - I'm going to let Julia and Lauren address childcare and whether your kids will have fun...

Missi Mom of Rachel, 6, dxd 18mo  (66.25.196.195) Tue Feb 24 09:25:50 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Rachel has been attending for two years and she was almost 5 at the first one! The childcare is GREAT!!!!

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:26:34 PM GMT-05:00 2004

Lauren Volunteer Coordinator  (63.227.13.133) Tue Feb 24 09:26:56 PM GMT-05:00 2004
My kids loved childcare. How old are your kids? They have lots for them to do... arts and crafts and lots of kids to play with

Missi Mom of Rachel, 6, dxd 18mo  (66.25.196.195) Tue Feb 24 09:26:57 PM GMT-05:00 2004

do kids (i.e. 13 year olds) help with childcare?

Brenda H. mom of Marissa, dx'd 9.89  (216.68.227.252) Tue Feb 24 09:27:54 PM GMT-05:00 2004
We often send Kathryn, who will be 14 in LA, to help with the kids. They play games, do arts and crafts, maybe even sing and dance---oooh, a job for Ellars' twins!

Catherine Mom of Emma - almost 5, dx'd at 3  (68.5.216.148) Tue Feb 24 09:28:22 PM GMT-05:00 2004
I'm not sure I want to bring the twins (they'll be 2) and Abigail (3). If we do decide to go, you think the 9,8, and 5 year olds will be fine? What do you all do with the kids at night??

JoAnn Mom of Luke, 5 1/2,dx'd at 4  (24.45.233.193) Tue Feb 24 09:28:49 PM GMT-05:00 2004
how about the children older like 8year olds
my other son who is not a diabetic
what is it like for him?

Lauren Volunteer Coordinator  (63.227.13.133) Tue Feb 24 09:28:50 PM GMT-05:00 2004
I usually had to drag my kids out of childcare. And we have "runners" who hang out and if a child needs his parent, they will come get you out of whatever session you are in

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:28:59 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Seriously, though, re: childcare. It will be staffed by Kids Klub Pasadena, which is absolutely the best childcare I have seen ever, anywhere. We had them do childcare at the Pasadena conference, and they set the gold standard. The owner of KKP is going to send me a rough schedule of what they have planned as far as activities, and I will post that. I will also post a link to their website, and you can contact them with questions. Animas supports childcare by having CDEs right in childcare to do bg checks, etc.

Brenda H. mom of Marissa, dx'd 9.89  (216.68.227.252) Tue Feb 24 09:29:42 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Well, if you decide to bring them and want time on your own, you can ask some of the teen girls to babysit--even if you just want to go to the hotel lounge to get away for an hour.

Lauren Volunteer Coordinator  (63.227.13.133) Tue Feb 24 09:29:50 PM GMT-05:00 2004
my daughter Sarah will be 8 and does not have diabetes. All of the kids sessions are really geared to kids with and without D.

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:29:53 PM GMT-05:00 2004
We don't separate out 'diabetic' from 'non-diabetic' kids. Most of the sessions are just about 'kid topics' - only one or two focus entirely on diabetes... and at those times, we have alternate sessions for siblings.

Missi Mom of Rachel, 6, dxd 18mo  (66.25.196.195) Tue Feb 24 09:30:05 PM GMT-05:00 2004
And as far as the CDE's from animas, they are GREAT as well! Rachel has her own "nurse"  Grin

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:31:30 PM GMT-05:00 2004
As we get closer to conference time, I'll send out a note to the conference listserv asking for any teens who are interested in doing some childcare to contact me with their email and phone #. Then, if a parent wants a sitter while they're at the conference (say, for an evening out or just an hours peaceful conversation), I provide the info.

Missi Mom of Rachel, 6, dxd 18mo  (66.25.196.195) Tue Feb 24 09:31:47 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Can you tell we are happy? Rachel as decided to "graduate" from childcare this year though and attend sessions.

Brenda H. mom of Marissa, dx'd 9/89  (216.68.227.252) Tue Feb 24 09:31:59 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Isn't there going to be a didgeridoo making session for ALL the kids again? They all seemed to love it last year.

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:32:10 PM GMT-05:00 2004
And, for the record, I think some 13 year olds are great baby-sitters. They are young enough to still appreciate fun, but old enough to have a decent amount of responsibility.

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:32:49 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Not sure on the didges. Hamish and crew will be doing a session with kids and a session with teens, but not sure exactly WHAT they will be doing. I've heard a few different ideas, but I have to keep them SECRET...  Grin

Catherine Mom of Emma - almost 5, dx'd at 3  (68.5.216.148) Tue Feb 24 09:32:50 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Okay, well, we're really going to try to go. We're supposed to be in Texas then, but I really want to meet all my imaginary friends. Wink

Missi Mom of Rachel, 6, dxd 18mo  (66.25.196.195) Tue Feb 24 09:32:59 PM GMT-05:00 2004

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:34:20 PM GMT-05:00 2004
If it doesn't bring us too far off-topic, sure.
JoAnn - GREAT on the quilt square!!!

Heather - I can give tax receipts if your pledgers would like them (the CWDF is a 501c3 organization, so donations are tax deductible). I'd send them after I got back from CA and sent the $$ to the Foundation.

Laura, thanks for the clarification about the focus groups. We attended the conf. two years ago and really enjoyed talking personally with all of the experts. I usually have some pretty technical questions so I think I'll get started on my list now! My son is so excited about going! Wendi

Hey Stacey

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:38:31 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Wendi, all of the faculty are there to talk with you. Don't ever think that you can't approach them. They really enjoy meeting our parents and families. Believe it or not, every year we are 'sold out' with faculty. They write to me literally a year in advance wanting to do our next conference because it's so invigorating for them to be with us. That is a great compliment to all of you.

Catherine Mom of Emma - almost 5, dx'd at 3  (68.5.216.148) Tue Feb 24 09:38:51 PM GMT-05:00 2004

The DRI doesn't really have a "product" to get feedback on, so what's the "focus" of their focus group?

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:40:36 PM GMT-05:00 2004
So... a fashion question for all of my advisors...
Shall we have white t-shirts again this year, or shall we add some color?

Great idea Barbie! Hey Brenda, can you bring a bunch of the blank squares from your mom? I saw the hotel, I think the venue will be great for just hanging out at the pool connecting... it really reminds me of the very first conference hotel

Heather Mom blessed with two, BC Canada  (209.52.93.56) Tue Feb 24 09:41:27 PM GMT-05:00 2004

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:41:27 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Barbie - The DRI is deciding on their topic... they will let me know soon. Actually several of the companies are going to lead discussion about topic vs product. Last year, Animas' focus group on exercise and pumping (regardless of type of pump) was very well done.

Stacey tired Mom to Jesse  (64.12.96.6) Tue Feb 24 09:42:28 PM GMT-05:00 2004

Stacey, you are reading my mind. I WAS thinking of Volunteer purple...

I think we should have the yellow Volunteer shirts on the west coast, orange on the east.
As for the other shirts, I really don't want gray again, either.

Stacey tired Mom to Jesse  (64.12.96.6) Tue Feb 24 09:44:11 PM GMT-05:00 2004

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:44:59 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Val, it all depends what you're interested in. You can email me privately and I'll help you decide. Some of the companies haven't given me topics yet, so it's vague. You may want to wait a couple of weeks and see what else is posted.

Gray was pretty drab. Whose dumb idea was that?

I don't think Jeff will wear purple. I think a light blue would be nice, but we'd have to see how the logo looks on it. Jeff is not here to chime in with his vote!

We'll have tanks, too.
Ah well... I guess I'll have to get the opinion of the great Chris Opdenaker (she prints all of our shirts) and has great color sense.
There's actually fluorescent green in the print on the logo, so that doesn't work on a green shirt.

Laura Billetdeaux CWD Events, Sam's mom  (68.40.87.96) Tue Feb 24 09:47:18 PM GMT-05:00 2004
Gray was Linda's idea... but I think she meant a different gray - more of a solid instead of the 'sweatpants gray' that we ended up with. Those were dreadful!

Lauren Volunteer Coordinator  (63.227.13.133) Tue Feb 24 09:47:25 PM GMT-05:00 2004

Missi, that reminds me of my crazy day. School nurse called to say TImothy felt dizzy at 12:30. I told her to have him rest, then go back to class. Same symptoms an hour later so I had to pick him up. First thing I did was check his BG. I didn't suspect he'd be high, but maybe low and has hypoglycemia. BG was 100 so I eliminated that theory. After he napped (maybe that's why he's still up!), I check his incision (appendectomy 2 wks ago) and concluded it wasn't infected. Got another idea at 3:30 and took him for an eye exam. Seems he needs glasses! Hope that is behind the complaint. Anyway, even though he doesn't have diabetes, I just HAD to check his BG.
