Good evening and welcome everyone to this LifeScan-sponsored chat. Joining us tonight are several members from the new OneTouch Diabetes Management Software (formerly IN TOUCH Software) and also the new OneTouch UltraSmart Meter Product Teams. Hi all. I just used the software Mon. a.m. to print out some info for the endo. He looked over them and pointed out the nighttime highs on the Pie Chart. Haven't really done much else with the software, yet.

Lisa OneTouch Software Product Manager  (148.177.1.212) Wed Apr 09 09:08:35 PM EDT 2003
Brenda, that is a great start. You may want to look at the Standard Day Report!

Brenda H. mom of Marissa, 15, dx'd 9/89,pump  (216.68.227.14) Wed Apr 09 09:08:48 PM EDT 2003
About that pie chart. It was confusing to me to read becaue of the way it printed in black in white with the lines. Will you be changing it to make it printable in color? Just seems it would be easier to read. Same with the Standard Day table.

Do I use the 'pump' software setup for Lantus since Lantus is simular to a pump 24 hour cycle. If the pump setting is not used does the software know the time cycle of Lantus?

Don OneTouch Software Product Team  (148.177.9.134) Wed Apr 09 09:10:20 PM EDT 2003
Gene, It will not work with a standard USB connection. We will be out soon with a USB cable that will work

Use Lantus in the insulin profile not as a pump. The dose is simply indicated in your log if you check the active box.

Multiple questions: What are the primary advantages of the new ver 2.x 1T/US over competitive products (Accu-Chek Compass, FreeStyle Tracker, etc)? Also, with regards to the trend analysis, what is the standard deviation (with 2, 4, or 10 readings per day)? Are there any plans for a re-charging cradle (like for a PDA) - to keep from going thru a bunch of batteries. Can you set up multiple "users" or accounts?

no they cannot be corrected why should I spend my time changing time to get the correct insuling dose to go with the time given if my dose was for 20 units at 7.a.m. and I took 10 units and 9 a.m. the report would show that at 7.a.m. I took the 10 units this problem has been in your software since day one Frown

Shelly OneTouch UltraSmart Product Team  (148.177.1.212) Wed Apr 09 09:25:40 PM EDT 2003
Lori - The UltraSmart should be available at your local retailer or pharmacy. You'll have to check there for their prices.

Sorry about the cradle charger question, forgot only software questions. But would like to ask if can pass on idea: designer covers like they have for cell phones (cool radical design skins).

brucef DM type 2 54 yr old  (209.173.188.72) Wed Apr 09 09:26:37 PM EDT 2003
Cheapest price I've found for the meters is at the pharmacy at Kroger Supermarkets. They sell them at their cost.

Ana OneTouch Software Product Manager  (148.177.1.212) Wed Apr 09 09:26:44 PM EDT 2003
Pin Cushion: Primary advantages are the number and quality of reports as well as the flexibility with adding comments to existing reports. Lots of manual entry options as well to supplement the readings coming from the meter. You can set up multiple users. The PDA cradle idea is being researched...

Don OneTouch Software Product Team  (148.177.9.134) Wed Apr 09 09:26:47 PM EDT 2003
Judy, We though both your childen had a meter. You can use the software and add things manually if you do not want to purchase new meters.

Connie, the OneTouch Interface Cable here in the US is $19.99. You will find this to be lower than other software cables on the market

Arlene Type 1 on pump  (4.43.243.140) Wed Apr 09 09:28:27 PM EDT 2003
Confused The software is useless without a cable. If someone has a cable he/she can give away the software but the other person cannot use it without a cable. Therefore I don't understand the company policy download/install policy.

Ana OneTouch Software Product Manager  (148.177.1.212) Wed Apr 09 09:28:50 PM EDT 2003
RosaLea: A USB OneTOuch Interface Cable is under development. Please check the LifeScan.com website for updates.

My son is currently not using any of the sophisticated features, but I have hope..... Re: input of insulin doses, are those in whole units only or can the meter display tenths of units?

Shelly OneTouch UltraSmart Product Team  (148.177.1.212) Wed Apr 09 09:29:43 PM EDT 2003
Harve - UltraSmart only uses AAA alkaline batteries. It comes with 2 AAA alkaline batteries already installed.

Don OneTouch Software Product Team  (148.177.9.134) Wed Apr 09 09:30:02 PM EDT 2003
Anita, Are you using an Ultrasmatr? If so the time in the Ultrasmart always over rides the software. If not, setting the software to the correct time blocks will place them in the correct slots for FUTURE downloads, it will not correct past downloaded readings.

Lisa OneTouch Software Product Manager  (148.177.1.212) Wed Apr 09 09:30:16 PM EDT 2003
RoseLea, unfortunately we cannot make the software so it can be copied, in event of a recall we would not be able to contact all people using the software.

RoseLea dxd 1963  (216.90.100.59) Wed Apr 09 09:31:14 PM EDT 2003
Lisa, I'm with Arlene, you would have to have the cable to use the software, correct? So, all you would need to do is register the folks who purchase cables.

Shelly OneTouch UltraSmart Product Team  (148.177.1.212) Wed Apr 09 09:31:16 PM EDT 2003

Great software release! Wish list for future: 1) Build in a 1500 Rule/1800 Rule calculator to est. drop of BG per unit of insulin (sliding scale) 2) Build in 500 Rule calculator to est. units of insulin to cover carb intake, with adjustments for c-peptide test. 3) infa-red and/or bluetooth communication for meter. 4) meter test strip cartridge for us with fat fingers. 5) Bigger fonts for us with bad eyesight. 6) insulin need predictors based on current/past activity, past insulin injections, past/current carb intake, insulin resistance factor, etc.

Mary from MD Megan, 13, dx'ed at 6  (141.157.93.200) Wed Apr 09 09:50:51 PM EDT 2003
I was told by a technical support rep, that in June there will be a USB cable available.

Ana OneTouch Software Product Manager  (148.177.1.212) Wed Apr 09 09:51:44 PM EDT 2003
Michele: YES! ALL the info from UltraSmart downloads to the OneTouch Software.

Mary from MD Megan, 13, dx'ed at 6  (141.157.93.200) Wed Apr 09 09:51:58 PM EDT 2003
I have used the IN-Touch software for at least 5 years and I love the new program.

Lisa OneTouch Software Product Manager  (148.177.1.212) Wed Apr 09 09:52:02 PM EDT 2003
Stephanie, I know what you mean! Have you seen the new UltraSmart?

Stephanie UltraSmart user, type 2  (207.191.213.137) Wed Apr 09 09:52:22 PM EDT 2003
Michele, I think the non-bg info seems like the UltraSmart's strong suit. It's pretty easy.

Shelly OneTouch UltraSmart Product Team  (148.177.1.212) Wed Apr 09 09:52:41 PM EDT 2003
Michele - It's very easy to use the UltraSmart. Entering insulin, exercise and carbs is also quite intuitive.
To answer your second question, every piece of information downloads to the software!

Stephanie UltraSmart user, type 2  (207.191.213.137) Wed Apr 09 09:52:50 PM EDT 2003
Lisa, I'm now using an UltraSmart. I like it.

Don OneTouch Product Team  (148.177.9.134) Wed Apr 09 09:53:16 PM EDT 2003
Great Mary, thanks for the feedback!

Lisa OneTouch Software Product Manager  (148.177.1.212) Wed Apr 09 09:53:46 PM EDT 2003
Michele, In case you are wondering what type of data that can be directly downloaded from UltraSmart are: blood pressure, height, weight, A1c, last doctor visit, cholesteral, ketones, microalbumin, etc etc

RoseLea dxd 1963  (216.90.100.59) Wed Apr 09 09:54:46 PM EDT 2003
Now I have a question... so, I purchase the cd... what keeps me from copying and distributing it out to friends, etc. How is that different from allowing me to download and install the software separately?

Warren   (68.164.150.12) Wed Apr 09 09:55:07 PM EDT 2003
In reports 3 pie charts on one page would be helpful #1) 14 day avg of insulin units by 24 hr time slice #2) 14 day avg of carb intake by 24 hr time slice #3) 14 day avg of BG by 24 hour time slice. I have used these graphs with another software program. They helped me to instantly see if I'm spreading my carbs evenly, injecting at the right time/right amount, by tracking my BG at one time. I have been able to keep BG around 140 +/- 15.

Mary from MD Megan, 13, dx'ed at 6  (141.157.93.200) Wed Apr 09 09:55:13 PM EDT 2003
One of my favorite features is being able to do a weekday and weekend regiment.

We have a One Touch Ultra, but haven't ordered the cord yet. We are also having a problem with the serial port on our computer. Where does the cord plug into the computer?

Don OneTouch Product Team  (148.177.9.134) Wed Apr 09 09:55:59 PM EDT 2003
If anyone is calling their Docs with blood glucose readings, ask them is they have internet access. Then suggest emailing them your reports. If will save you and them lots of time.

Judith David, 17, diagnosed at age 2 months, UltraSmart owner  (65.171.1.205) Wed Apr 09 09:56:26 PM EDT 2003
We've been Lifescan users since Dave's first meter, the Glucoscan 2000, in early 1986. Have tried nearly every other meter made over the years, but always stick with Lifescan for the main meter.

anita   (64.156.230.124) Wed Apr 09 09:57:17 PM EDT 2003
the software is free but you need the cable to gather the info from your meter

Shelly OneTouch UltraSmart Product Team  (148.177.1.212) Wed Apr 09 09:57:32 PM EDT 2003
Judith - Thanks for being a loyal customer. What happens to be your favorite LifeScan meter at the moment?

Don OneTouch Product Team  (148.177.9.134) Wed Apr 09 09:57:34 PM EDT 2003
Michelle, The cable plugs into the serial (9 pin) at the back of your computer.

RoseLea dxd 1963  (216.90.100.59) Wed Apr 09 09:57:49 PM EDT 2003
Anita, the software is $30 if you need to purchase the CD version.

Lisa OneTouch Software Product Manager  (148.177.1.212) Wed Apr 09 09:57:56 PM EDT 2003
Mary, glad you like that feature, we thought it would be useful for patients to be able to make changes based on different lifestyles!

Dave was using the Profile at home, Ultra at school etc. Now it's the UltraSmart at home, Ultras at school.

Kristi Mom of garrett13  (206.149.65.14) Wed Apr 09 09:58:44 PM EDT 2003
It just seems like if they would give the cord away many people would switch to One Touch.

Jim   (66.122.213.58) Wed Apr 09 09:59:36 PM EDT 2003
Don, can you provide me the specs to make my own cable?

We email to the doctor each and everyday. This seems like the answer for us. It just appears that it would save us a lot of hassles of copying charts etc. I will hopefully be buying at least one soon.

Judith - Thanks for your feedback. How does Dave like the new UltraSmart?

RoseLea dxd 1963  (216.90.100.59) Wed Apr 09 10:00:12 PM EDT 2003
Ooops, correction, that's $40... 19.99 for the cable and $40 for the software... $59.99 for all. The total price includes ground shipping.

Judith David, 17, diagnosed at age 2 months, UltraSmart owner  (65.171.1.205) Wed Apr 09 10:00:20 PM EDT 2003
I'm particularly happy that the same strips can be used for both those meters. We were left with some FreeStyle strips, now have some Profiles....

anita   (64.156.230.124) Wed Apr 09 10:00:29 PM EDT 2003
No thank you I bought the cord for 20.00 way back when the program came out I do not agree with just giving the cord away at one time lifescan wanted to charge 10.00 per month to read and send you a report each month

Mary from MD Megan, 13, dx'ed at 6  (141.157.93.200) Wed Apr 09 10:01:22 PM EDT 2003

Megan has been using the Induo since it first came out. That has worked very well for a kid that is always losing everything.

Mary, if you have a 9-pin serial port on your computer, you can use the 25-pin cable with an adapter as Arlene said.

Dumb Idea for misplaced meters: have sensor that makes it beep if you walk around with a TV remote. Thanks 1T/US Product Team for your time!

Judith-I don't own the UltraSmart, but the cable has worked with every Lifescan meter I have owed to date.

If I have to pay for it I'll stick with the serial adapter. I have about 8 USB devices and nothing else to use on my serial port. If it's free that's another story. Smile
