Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 08:54:59 PM EDT 2003
Good evening, Everyone. I'm here - working and watching for when people show up. Say hi when you're on! Cool

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 08:58:16 PM EDT 2003
Hi Laura ... I'm here for a bit.

Dawn friend of Julie  (24.194.236.100) Tue Apr 22 08:59:05 PM EDT 2003
Hi everyone. Can't wait to go to Florida. Pasadena was such great fun last year.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 08:59:26 PM EDT 2003
Okey dokey. I'm working on 'ribbons' for name badges. You get one that says Rock Star.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:00:08 PM EDT 2003
Hey Dawn! I'm so glad you are coming back this year. Florida will have a different 'flavor' than California... it will be very fun! We're going to have a huge turnout.

Jane(OH) pumping, Mom of Josh 13, dx'd 12/02  (207.166.194.221) Tue Apr 22 09:00:12 PM EDT 2003
Hello, we are looking forward to coming

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 09:00:19 PM EDT 2003
Rock star?  Rolling Eyes

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:00:31 PM EDT 2003
btw, Jeff, I was teasing. LOL

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 09:01:07 PM EDT 2003
heh

Teri Mom of Jessica, 5, dx'd 12/2002  (205.188.208.11) Tue Apr 22 09:01:18 PM EDT 2003
Hi All. Never done this before. Looking forward to Orlando

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:01:40 PM EDT 2003
Hi Jane! When is your family arriving? Early at all?

Dawn friend of Julie  (24.194.236.100) Tue Apr 22 09:01:45 PM EDT 2003
Hi Laura - My kids had so much fun at the conference and they made so many friends. I found the night that we were making the bags ahead of time was the best because we got to meet new friends.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:02:19 PM EDT 2003
Hi Teri!
You'll be so happy you decided to come. I know it's a leap of faith to leave home and attend one of these conferences when you don't know what you're getting into... but trust me, you will love it.

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 09:02:22 PM EDT 2003
Teri -- the conference is an amazing time.

Jane(OH) pumping, Mom of Josh 13, dx'd 12/02  (207.166.194.221) Tue Apr 22 09:02:53 PM EDT 2003
We are driving down. Arriving at disney on Wed.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:04:17 PM EDT 2003
Well, I just received the latest housing report from Disney, and there are nearly 100 families who will be there Tuesday night at the Coronado - and 25 or so who will be on site most of the week starting Monday. Bring your old CWD shirts or Quilt for Life shirts - or something that will identify you as 'one of us' - so we can all find each other at the pool. Or... just take out your blood glucose meter and we'll know you belong!

Teri Mom of Jessica, 5, dx'd 12/2002  (205.188.208.11) Tue Apr 22 09:04:26 PM EDT 2003
DOn't think I am ignoring you, but I keep getting cut off. Is it me...why does it say room has been closed?

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 09:05:15 PM EDT 2003
Teri -- hm, not sure why it would say the room is closed.

Connie (VA) Mom of Brooke, age 4 1/2, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.106.185) Tue Apr 22 09:05:37 PM EDT 2003
Hi all -- jumping on a few minutes late -- but counting down the days! Smile

Cassy Nathan, 3, dx'd@ 14 months  (216.144.9.20) Tue Apr 22 09:05:55 PM EDT 2003
it just told me the room was closed as well- then the messages flashed back Confused

JCLUVSU Mom to Amy, 8, dx'd July, 2002  (66.57.242.198) Tue Apr 22 09:06:22 PM EDT 2003
Hello! We are excited here in NC for our trip to Florida!

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:06:41 PM EDT 2003
The system must be burping. Eek

Teri Mom of Jessica, 5, dx'd 12/2002  (205.188.208.11) Tue Apr 22 09:06:52 PM EDT 2003
When is the latest date the quilt can be submitted?

Cassy Nathan, 3, dx'd@ 14 months  (216.144.9.20) Tue Apr 22 09:07:35 PM EDT 2003
just did it again- wasn't doing it in "parents"

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:07:37 PM EDT 2003
The quilt squares should be in Jeff's hands by June 1. Right, Jeff?

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 09:07:49 PM EDT 2003
Teri -- I plan to ship the quilt to Orlando on July 1, so I need it before then.

Michi 20, type 1  (67.32.49.193) Tue Apr 22 09:08:04 PM EDT 2003
evening everyone!

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 09:08:12 PM EDT 2003
Oops -- I mean June 1.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:08:33 PM EDT 2003
For those of you who are coming early, I know that a group of families will be heading over to Blizzard Beach on Tuesday. This is one of the water parks. It is very fun - and it will be very refreshing. July is HOT and STICKY in Orlando.

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 09:08:44 PM EDT 2003
If I have all quilts here by June 1, there's time to get them photographed, put in the online catalog, and included in the shipment.

Teri Mom of Jessica, 5, dx'd 12/2002  (205.188.208.11) Tue Apr 22 09:09:06 PM EDT 2003
Thanks. I will have it to you by June 1. But first I have to learn how to sew.

Connie (VA) Mom of Brooke, age 4 1/2, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.106.185) Tue Apr 22 09:09:12 PM EDT 2003
I've just seen Brooke's quilt for the first time tonight since we cut the pieces it -- it's nearly 3/4 of the way done. So exciting!

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:09:38 PM EDT 2003
Or, if you'd rather hold onto your money, the pool at the Coronado is wonderful as well... and you can just sit back and share stories with lots of other CWD families. I just spent a week there checking out security, our conference space, going over menus, etc. I was very happy with the security.

JCLUVSU Mom to Amy, 8, dx'd July, 2002  (66.57.242.198) Tue Apr 22 09:09:49 PM EDT 2003
We will be going to Sea World on Wednesday. Anyone else going?

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 09:10:31 PM EDT 2003
It's amazing to go to the pool and see pumps and meters all over the tables, and the pool filled with kids having a great time.

Connie (VA) Mom of Brooke, age 4 1/2, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.106.185) Tue Apr 22 09:10:42 PM EDT 2003
Teri -- when you will you all be arriving? Brooke will be 5 at the end of July -- perhaps we could get the girls together ahead of time

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, pump  (152.163.189.236) Tue Apr 22 09:10:42 PM EDT 2003
I love Sea World - it's my favorite park in Orlando.

Dawn friend of Julie  (24.194.236.100) Tue Apr 22 09:11:02 PM EDT 2003
Laura - Julie and I would have been happy to spend a week with you and check out the place. Let's see ... no husbands or kids. It would be rought but we could do it.

Dawn friend of Julie  (24.194.236.100) Tue Apr 22 09:11:02 PM EDT 2003
Laura - Julie and I would have been happy to spend a week with you and check out the place. Let's see ... no husbands or kids. It would be rought but we could do it.

Jane(OH) pumping, Mom of Josh 13, dx'd 12/02  (207.166.194.221) Tue Apr 22 09:11:05 PM EDT 2003
Not going to Sea World but may do Universal on Tuesday or Epcot

Teri Mom of Jessica, 5, dx'd 12/2002  (205.188.208.11) Tue Apr 22 09:11:21 PM EDT 2003
Every time it updates, my computer says room closed. Any ideas why? No big deal, it just makes me seem a little slow.

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, pump  (152.163.189.236) Tue Apr 22 09:11:29 PM EDT 2003
Will there be someone at the pool to hire to do cornrows in the girls' hair?

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 09:12:05 PM EDT 2003
Teri - it could be that your browser is storing old versions of the page. I'd suggest setting the browser to always load a new version of the page, at least while you're chatting.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:12:09 PM EDT 2003
You should ask the Orlando listserv about Sea World on Weds - I'll bet you'd get some takers. With so many families, there are bound to be a few of us everywhere. But please do remember that Focus Groups run all day on Weds, and these are a really great opportunity to have 1:1 communication with the folks who have new technology coming our way. Plus, free food!

Teri Mom of Jessica, 5, dx'd 12/2002  (205.188.208.11) Tue Apr 22 09:12:30 PM EDT 2003
COnnie, we will be arriving late Wed. I would love to get the girls together. Jessica's twin sister Hannah is coming also.

Cassy Nathan, 3, dx'd@ 14 months  (216.144.9.20) Tue Apr 22 09:12:35 PM EDT 2003
Teri- its doing the same thing to me Confused

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:13:36 PM EDT 2003
Ellen, I'm not sure about the hair thing. I didn't see anyone there. I can request someone if there are certain times we'd like it - like Friday evening or Weds afternoon when there is down time. I am going to request they keep the pool bar open for snacks and beverages for us Weds night. I really like the idea of just relaxing with everyone instead of running off to a park on Fri night! Saturday morning with the Magical Memories character breakfast will be early enough!

Connie (VA) Mom of Brooke, age 4 1/2, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.106.185) Tue Apr 22 09:14:12 PM EDT 2003
That would be great Teri --

Laura -- I'm hoping that we'll all have name tags so we can match up the names with the faces? Smile

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:14:31 PM EDT 2003
Oops, I meant Friday night (keeping the pool bar open). If our kids are swimming, they need snacks right there.

Jane(OH) pumping, Mom of Josh 13, dx'd 12/02  (207.166.194.221) Tue Apr 22 09:14:57 PM EDT 2003
Fri night we are just going to set pool side

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, pump  (152.163.189.236) Tue Apr 22 09:14:58 PM EDT 2003
Laura, last time they had someone doing hair wraps at the pool in Orlando. Yes, having the pool open at night is GREAT. Being with everyone is great LOL

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:15:37 PM EDT 2003
Name tags will be available starting on Weds. Same with conference t-shirts. Volunteer t-shirts will be available Tuesday.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:16:06 PM EDT 2003
I think we should all get a permanent marker and write our email addresses on our foreheads. That way, we'll know each other!

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, pump  (152.163.189.236) Tue Apr 22 09:16:36 PM EDT 2003
Zack has chosen to go to school this summer and take a course so he won't be going. I still love going and sharing with other parents

JCLUVSU Mom to Amy, 8, dx'd July, 2002  (66.57.242.198) Tue Apr 22 09:17:01 PM EDT 2003
Amy is excited about meeting kids with the same issues that she is dealing with on a daily basis.

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 09:17:03 PM EDT 2003
Laura -- yeah, or our chat names!

Connie (VA) Mom of Brooke, age 4 1/2, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.106.185) Tue Apr 22 09:17:05 PM EDT 2003
Ellen -- I think the hair wraps are a 'standard' at pool side -- at least from what I've seen. Especially in the peak/summer months when Disney is typically a little busier with younger children

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:17:29 PM EDT 2003
Too bad (about Zack not coming). We'll miss him. There are already over 75 teens signed up!

Teri Mom of Jessica, 5, dx'd 12/2002  (205.188.208.11) Tue Apr 22 09:17:53 PM EDT 2003
Laura- do we need to request a refridgerator or are they automatically in the rooms? If we need to request them, do you know if their is a charge?

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:18:00 PM EDT 2003
Put me in a corner with a margarita, and I'll wrap hair (if you'll put up with the results....)  Razz

JCLUVSU Mom to Amy, 8, dx'd July, 2002  (66.57.242.198) Tue Apr 22 09:18:30 PM EDT 2003
I have been wondering myself about the refridge, Teri. Thanks for asking.

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, pump  (152.163.189.236) Tue Apr 22 09:18:41 PM EDT 2003
He's excited to take Algebra II...go figure  Razz

Connie (VA) Mom of Brooke, age 4 1/2, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.106.185) Tue Apr 22 09:18:59 PM EDT 2003
 LOL Laura!

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:19:18 PM EDT 2003
You do need to request a refrigerator if you want one. They do not come standard in the room. Normally, there is a charge. For our group - for our kids - there isn't. Make sure they know you are with the conference or you will be charged (i.e., you do need to be in our room block for the frig).

Michi 20, type 1, dx'd 3/02, pumping  (67.32.49.193) Tue Apr 22 09:19:26 PM EDT 2003
Laura - you said there will be focus groups all day Wed - what exactly are these?

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 09:20:05 PM EDT 2003
Caution about the refrigerators -- they can get very cold and cause insulin to freeze. We had many families (ours included) with frozen insulin in 2002.

Teri Mom of Jessica, 5, dx'd 12/2002  (205.188.208.11) Tue Apr 22 09:20:32 PM EDT 2003
I checked the confirmation that came in the mail and it stated the conference name, so I am pretty sure we are in the room block

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, pump  (152.163.189.236) Tue Apr 22 09:21:45 PM EDT 2003
Did anyone take pictures of those frozen insulin cartridges for a scrap book?  LOL

Teri Mom of Jessica, 5, dx'd 12/2002  (205.188.208.11) Tue Apr 22 09:21:54 PM EDT 2003
Jeff, do you know if the fridges have a dial to set the coldness? How do you avoid it from freezing?

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:21:54 PM EDT 2003
These are 90 minute small discussion groups that are sponsored by some of the participating companies. They are looking for our input on a variety of topics... on new products already on the market... on products they are thinking of developing, on general topics such as pumping and exercise. They run all day long and there are 10 I think to choose from. You need to sign up with me asap. Space is limited and they are over half full right now. Go to the conference web page, scroll to the bottom , and click on Focus Groups to see the descriptions of each. And please do take advantage of this.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:22:27 PM EDT 2003
Teri - make sure you are looking at the hotel confirmation, not the confirmation that I sent you about conference registration and tickets.

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 09:22:41 PM EDT 2003
Teri - yes, the fridges have dials, but I'm not sure that they are very accurate. I'd advise caution, and setting the dial on cool rather than cold.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:23:02 PM EDT 2003
If you called the number on the brochure, you are in the room block. If you booked otherwise (i.e., through a travel agent or AAA), you aren't, unless you've spoken directly with me and I've arranged it.

Michi 20, type 1, dx'd 3/02, pumping  (67.32.49.193) Tue Apr 22 09:23:02 PM EDT 2003
Laura - thanks, I'll go check out the descriptions right now  Smile

Teri Mom of Jessica, 5, dx'd 12/2002  (205.188.208.11) Tue Apr 22 09:23:18 PM EDT 2003
It was the hotel confirmation, because I had to make a change to how many nights we were staying.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:23:55 PM EDT 2003
Re: insulin... maybe just put ONE bottle in the frig until you make sure that it doesn't freeze. When we were there a couple weeks ago, I had it turned down mid-way, and it kept milk and juice nice and cool, and the insulin didn't freeze.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:24:15 PM EDT 2003
You're all set then, Teri.  Wink

Connie (VA) Mom of Brooke, age 4 1/2, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.106.185) Tue Apr 22 09:26:11 PM EDT 2003
Teri -- what state are you in?

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:27:02 PM EDT 2003
Also a reminder about t-shirts. We will NOT have them for sale there. So if you want more than one (which is a really good idea, since you will get all hot and sweaty and yukky in one day, and the conference is 4 days), please order them ahead of time. You'll definitely want one for Magic Kingdom Day. That's when we 'take over' the park and have a blast waving at each other on Splash Mountain... in Mickey's Toon Town... at the parade... ANyway, please order them ahead of time so that you're not upset when you want extras and we don't have them! We did have extras the last two years, and I got stuck with literally hundreds. So, not doing that this year!

Teri Mom of Jessica, 5, dx'd 12/2002  (205.188.208.11) Tue Apr 22 09:27:14 PM EDT 2003
I got a prescription from Jessica's doctor to try the pump. Since this is all very new to us, I asked him what pump she should try and he said Cosmo. Is that an option? Any one have feedback on this pump?

Teri Mom of Jessica, 5, dx'd 12/2002  (205.188.208.11) Tue Apr 22 09:27:56 PM EDT 2003
Connie, we live in Atlanta

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 09:28:08 PM EDT 2003
Teri - Cosmo is very popular among kids, and you can try it at the conference!

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, pump  (152.163.189.236) Tue Apr 22 09:28:22 PM EDT 2003
My son's testing the Cozmo now for 2 weeks, so far it's a THUMBS UP!

Teri Mom of Jessica, 5, dx'd 12/2002  (205.188.208.11) Tue Apr 22 09:28:40 PM EDT 2003
Laura, how do you order more shirts?

Teri Mom of Jessica, 5, dx'd 12/2002  (205.188.208.11) Tue Apr 22 09:29:23 PM EDT 2003
Should I set something up ahead of time? And if so, who with?

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:29:30 PM EDT 2003
All of the pumps are an option. There are 5 companies allowing you to try their pumps: Animas, Dana Diabecare, Deltec (Cozmo), Disetronic, and Medtronic MiniMed. My suggestion would be that you try a couple different ones and compare. You wear one, your husband or child can wear another, and so on. You can wear one for 24 hours yourself, and then take it back and try one from another company. You DO need to pre-register for this. The contact info for each company is on the conference web page - on the right hand side in a yellow box.

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 09:30:08 PM EDT 2003
Teri, to arrange a pump trial at our conference, see the contact information on the right side of the main conference page:
http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/activities/orlando2003/

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:30:22 PM EDT 2003
For more shirts, email me with your confirmation number, how many more shirts you want, whether you want tanks or tees, and what sizes. They are $10 each. You'll either need to send a check or have me charge your visa or master card. If you paid for registration that way, I can use the same number.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:31:14 PM EDT 2003
I remember someone at our Tucson conference who had two pumps on at the same time... one on the right side and one on the left. She was comparing!

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 09:31:18 PM EDT 2003
lots of shirts is a good idea, unless you want to do laundry at the conference.

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, pump  (152.163.189.236) Tue Apr 22 09:31:42 PM EDT 2003
Can you test the CGMS or Glucowatch at the conference?

Ellen, not that I know of.

Do the majority of people wear the conference t shirts everyday -- or only for certain days/events?

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:33:39 PM EDT 2003
There IS laundry, btw. But not many washers/dryers. Better off to cart the dirty stuff home.

Ellen, CGMS will not be available this year. SankyoPharma will be there with the GlucoWatch2, but not for people to trial. They are very visible and supportive of the conference this year (a major sponsor, and also they are holding a focus group - so if you are interested in talking more in depth about the GlucoWatch, that's a great opportunity).

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 09:34:30 PM EDT 2003
Connie -- lots of people wear the conference shirts each day, but not everyone. The Magic Kingdom day is the #1 day to wear it, so you can easily identify other families.

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, pump  (152.163.189.236) Tue Apr 22 09:34:52 PM EDT 2003
Thanks Laura. It would have been interesting to see how the Glucowatch did in the Orlando heat.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:35:13 PM EDT 2003
Yes, most people will be in conference t-shirts. It's our identifying mechanism. And, as I said, definitely on Saturday. There will be a lot of other people at the hotel while we are there. We are taking up about 300 or so rooms per night... but there are over 2,000 in the hotel. So, the t-shirts are a good way for us to recognize each other immediately when other folks are around.

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, pump  (152.163.189.236) Tue Apr 22 09:36:03 PM EDT 2003
T-shirts and tank tops are GREAT - makes you really feel like one big family.

Jeff Hitchcock   (216.68.227.14) Tue Apr 22 09:36:16 PM EDT 2003
I need to sign off ... gotta help get the wild bunch into bed. 'Night all.

Connie (VA) Mom of Brooke, age 4 1/2, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.106.185) Tue Apr 22 09:36:42 PM EDT 2003
Laura, were you able to confirm whether the rooms will be located near the convention hall?

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:37:05 PM EDT 2003
I love the tanks. Very light and cool (tees and tanks are 100% cotton). Make sure you wear sunscreen outdoors, though, with the tanks, or you'll have some red shoulders!

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:38:07 PM EDT 2003
The room block is near the convention hall. That doesn't mean that everyone is guaranteed a room right within a few steps of the Convention Center... but they will try to keep us close. They know our concerns - it's the 3rd year we've been back at Disney, and we are scheduled there for 2005 as well, so they want to keep us as happy customers.

Connie (VA) Mom of Brooke, age 4 1/2, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.106.185) Tue Apr 22 09:38:10 PM EDT 2003
Is there a picture of the t shirts on the web site?

Teri Mom of Jessica, 5, dx'd 12/2002  (205.188.208.11) Tue Apr 22 09:38:15 PM EDT 2003
I need to sign off also. My kids are asleep (I think) so need to take advantage of quiet time. Thanks for all of the information. Looking forward to meeting all of you in July. Last time we were at Disney, Jessica was diagnosed. This time will be so much better.

JCLUVSU Mom to Amy, 8, dx'd July, 2002  (66.57.242.198) Tue Apr 22 09:38:27 PM EDT 2003
Will there be a transcript of this chat later that I will be able to read? Need to get my crew to bed as well!

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:39:56 PM EDT 2003
The t-shirts are white with the conference logo, which is a turquoise blue and lime green. You can see the logo on the conference web site, and actually on the main CWD page as well.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:40:17 PM EDT 2003
Yes, Jeff will post the transcript this week. Smile

Are there discount park hopper tickets for attendees?

JCLUVSU Mom to Amy, 8, dx'd July, 2002  (66.57.242.198) Tue Apr 22 09:40:41 PM EDT 2003
Thanks!

Dawn friend of Julie  (24.194.236.100) Tue Apr 22 09:40:55 PM EDT 2003
Laura - Will there be another site besides CA and Florida. The bahamas would be nice.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:42:30 PM EDT 2003
CWD is not selling park hopper passes. On the Disney site, however, there are a variety of park hopper options that you can purchase. Be cautious - some of the park hoppers expire and some last forever. So you want to make sure you get the correct number of days. We always get the ones that don't expire, and we just use them until they are 'gone'... then we get new ones.

Connie (VA) Mom of Brooke, age 4 1/2, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.106.185) Tue Apr 22 09:43:46 PM EDT 2003
Laura, the last time I checked the listing of vendors, it appeared that there weren't any type of food/beverage vendors -- has this been considered.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:44:17 PM EDT 2003
Dawn, it is not likely that we will go any place resorty. The reason for that is that CWD did a survey last year asking families where they would like to have conferences held. The biggest response was a cruise over the holidays. So, we booked one (this New Year's). 250 families said they were interested in coming. About 50 actually booked. for a cruise, that's fine, as it is mostly a vacation. For a conference, that's not ok. Way too much time and money involved for people not to come. And the economy is just too iffy for a lot of people to commit.

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, pump  (152.163.189.236) Tue Apr 22 09:44:35 PM EDT 2003
Thanks Laura. It's always an absolutely awesome time at the CWD events. You really do a great job organizing it all. This will be our 4th time attending.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:45:33 PM EDT 2003
Connie, there are a couple of vendors with samples. We have to be very careful what we offer in the exhibit hall. REmember that a lot of kids will be running arounds sans parents in the hall - especially the first night with all the entertainment and goodies - it is best for there NOT to be a lot of exhibitor food samples. There will be a ton of food that WE are offering, and it is all labeled with carb counts and portion sizes. You will be stuffed.

Dawn friend of Julie  (24.194.236.100) Tue Apr 22 09:45:55 PM EDT 2003
that's a very good point. 50 should be a pretty decent amount of people to relax. I agree, you do a great job organizing these events. They go off without a hitch.

Connie (VA) Mom of Brooke, age 4 1/2, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.106.185) Tue Apr 22 09:47:27 PM EDT 2003
Oh, not worried about myself -- was just looking for ideas, new companies. For example, we order a bit from The Sugarless Shop (web site) they are located in Baltimore and they have a lot of 'fun' things for Brooke -- i.e. sugarless gum tape that we put in her Easter basket

Connie (VA) Mom of Brooke, age 4 1/2, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.106.185) Tue Apr 22 09:48:47 PM EDT 2003
I have no trouble finding food and goodies for myself --- but it's a different story when looking for Brooke LOL

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:49:41 PM EDT 2003
Hah! Lots of hitches, but hopefully they are invisible to most people. Sunday night, I get my relaxation Tanqueray and Tonic! :)
I didn't really answer your question, though, Dawn. We will flip flop back and forth between FL and CA for the next 5 years at least. We have contracts in place and dates set through 2006, and I'm working on the 2007 and 2008 sites now. We realize that a lot of people can't afford to take the time off - or go to the coast - or spend a lot of money on theme parks, etc.... so that is why we've started offering the regional conferences. They are smaller and much more affordable. The one over Labor Day in Baltimore is $150 registration and hotel is $119. And no theme park... just the beautiful Inner Harbor! In February, we'll be in San Antonio on the Riverwalk. Again, similar registration, and a $92 room rate.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:51:55 PM EDT 2003
Re: smaller companies exhibiting, again, it is expensive for them and not always worth it. It costs thousands for them to get their products down to FL, and it's hard to make that much profit in just a couple of days of open exhibiting. I do send them literature about the conferences. If there's someone you'd like me to contact, I'm happy to. Our exhibit space for Disney is just about sold out, though.

Dawn friend of Julie  (24.194.236.100) Tue Apr 22 09:52:07 PM EDT 2003
Unfortunately, Julie and I need to go where we will hit the most of our target audience. I do understand that the theme parks are perfect for the kids and parents to have a vacation while learning. That's what we did in Pasadena. I was thinking of a place that is just different. How about the cape or maine in the future. It's always great to see new places.

Jane(OH) pumping, Mom of Josh 13, dx'd 12/02  (207.166.194.221) Tue Apr 22 09:52:22 PM EDT 2003
The regional conferences sound great. Hopefully we will be able to try to make it to one.

Connie (VA) Mom of Brooke, age 4 1/2, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.106.185) Tue Apr 22 09:53:47 PM EDT 2003
Laura, are there plans to come back to Baltimore again next year?

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:54:20 PM EDT 2003
They are fun to plan... but I have to say that this year's Disney and next year's Universal will be the most fun to plan. Such great sites and both places really have their acts together as far as holding conferences. They simply don't let me forget anything! And for those of you who went to Universal and did the dinner thing last year, we are booked for the same event next summer. It was incredible watching the kids and the characters... and the entertainment. But, I digress...

Connie (VA) Mom of Brooke, age 4 1/2, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.106.185) Tue Apr 22 09:55:57 PM EDT 2003
Seeing that we are doing Disney in July, even though we are very close to Baltimore -- I'm not sure if we'll do that one. But I'd like to attand another conference next year -- hopefully something will be in this area?

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:56:00 PM EDT 2003
We won't go back to the same site two years in a row for the regional. However, I have 4 proposals on the table right now that are eastern corridor over Labor Day 2004. I need to weigh "beach" vs. "D.C." vs. "a little more expensive resort" vs "much less expensive but harder to get to!" Lots to think about. If you want to discuss and give me feedback, please email me privately. I do value the input.

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:57:22 PM EDT 2003
I am expecting a lot of commuters to the Baltimore conference. And for those of us who are traveling to get there and need to stay overnight, I hope people will stay Sunday night and play, since Monday is a holiday!

Laura B. CWD Events  (68.43.235.39) Tue Apr 22 09:58:34 PM EDT 2003
Just one more reminder before we call it a night. If anyone has specific dietary restrictions, please let me know privately by phone or email. We can accommodate most things - and we have some good options for participants with celiac. But we need to know who you are and give you specific directions (some meals will be plated vs buffet for you).

Thanks, Laura. We are getting super excited! Smile

Thank you all for participating in the chat tonight! Please feel free to email me anytime with questions or comments! This room will remain open for a bit for anyone who would like to continue chatting. G'night everyone! Cool
