Hi Connie! Everyone must be outside enjoying the weather tonight... kind of slow!

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:03:10 PM EDT 2003
Jay, I know you and Mom will have a blast. This conference is shaping up to be absolutely the best ever. Lots of fun stuff for kids of every age (even really old ones like me!).

Connie (VA) Mother of Brooke, almost 5, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.93.9) Thu Jun 19 09:03:48 PM EDT 2003
Well, if they are coming from the No. VA area....they should be inside -- raining AGAIN. I'm ready for the FL sun!

Jay Diabetic 29 years  (151.199.239.89) Thu Jun 19 09:03:54 PM EDT 2003
Do you know if Clare or Kari will be here tonight?

Connie (VA) Mother of Brooke, almost 5, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.93.9) Thu Jun 19 09:04:49 PM EDT 2003
Other than being SUPER busy, Laura -- how are things coming along on your end?

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:04:49 PM EDT 2003
I'm not sure if they will or not. I should probably give Kari a quick call...

debstevian Mom of Ian, 2, dx'd @ 10 1/2 months  (64.72.81.216) Thu Jun 19 09:05:03 PM EDT 2003
Hi, This will be my family's first conference and we are all so excited.

Connie (VA) Mother of Brooke, almost 5, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.93.9) Thu Jun 19 09:05:57 PM EDT 2003
Hi debstevian Smile

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:06:14 PM EDT 2003
The best way to describe these last few weeks is - a roller coaster. You just hang on for dear life and enjoy the ride. And scream at the top of your lungs!

Connie (VA) Mother of Brooke, almost 5, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.93.9) Thu Jun 19 09:06:47 PM EDT 2003
 LOL Laura!

Lauren Volunteer coordinator  (12.86.9.231) Thu Jun 19 09:06:54 PM EDT 2003
hi!!!

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:06:57 PM EDT 2003
It will be a very interesting mix of people. I'd say about half the families participating have been with us other years, and about half the families are new. That will benefit everyone!

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:07:24 PM EDT 2003
Hi everyone. We've been packing up the quilts to get them shipped to Orlando! They have been covering our ping pong table. Now, I guess we will be able to play ping pong again. Smile

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:07:33 PM EDT 2003
Hey Lauren. Got some didge volunteers? You wouldn't believe the number of emails I've received asking what on earth a didge is, and if they were volunteering, what were they getting into!

Julia/A2angelmom mom to Ethan 5 dx @ 10mo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:07:35 PM EDT 2003
Hello friends...i made it, the kids are about to walk in from Bible School

Connie (VA) Mother of Brooke, almost 5, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.93.9) Thu Jun 19 09:07:43 PM EDT 2003
Hi Lauren -- do you have all of the volunteer slots filled?

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:07:57 PM EDT 2003
Hey Brenda! I understand those are some BIG boxes!

Lauren Volunteer coordinator  (12.86.9.231) Thu Jun 19 09:08:07 PM EDT 2003
LOL! I have gotten a few volunteers... not a lot.

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:08:10 PM EDT 2003
Speaking of the quilts, Julia, I told Jeff you are the ironing queen and will help iron quilts. Wink

Kriss Mom of Paige age 9.5 dxd @ 3  (64.18.33.143) Thu Jun 19 09:08:29 PM EDT 2003

Lauren Volunteer coordinator  (12.86.9.231) Thu Jun 19 09:08:44 PM EDT 2003

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:08:48 PM EDT 2003
Yea, they are. Could fit each of our kids in them.

iansmommy Mom of Ian, 31/2, dx'd at 15months  (12.90.25.30) Thu Jun 19 09:08:48 PM EDT 2003
Hello everyone. This is our first conference and first time to Orlando. We are very excited!

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:09:00 PM EDT 2003
Iron quilts? Sam wants to know if we can change the picture on his. He thinks he looks 'young.'  Wink

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:09:47 PM EDT 2003
Well, not yet Lauren, but Jeff did find some heavier duty boxes with corner supports. We think the boxes will survive several shippings.

Julia/A2angelmom mom to Ethan 5 dx @ 10mo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:09:51 PM EDT 2003
Ok i tell you every year i will be glad to iron them....just make sure there are plenty of margaritas

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:10:20 PM EDT 2003
I'm really excited for all of you first-timers. I remember the first year we all got together in Orlando... I looked at everyone with their beautiful kids all having a great time, and I just sat down and cried. It's pretty incredible.

How many of you are coming early? I understand the Coronado is about sold out.

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:10:31 PM EDT 2003
Laura, I guess YOU could make him a new quilt. Grin

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:11:19 PM EDT 2003
Nah, I'd have to solicit help. I didn't make the first one. I have friends in high places... with sewing machines... and they know how to use them!

debstevian Mom of Ian, 2, dx'd @ 10 1/2 months  (64.72.81.216) Thu Jun 19 09:11:25 PM EDT 2003
We will be there on Sunday the 6th!!

iansmommy Mom of Ian, 31/2, dx'd at 15months  (12.90.25.30) Thu Jun 19 09:12:02 PM EDT 2003
We would love to meet you. It has been a rough 21/2 years-would be nice to talk to someone in the same boat!

Lauren Volunteer coordinator  (12.86.9.231) Thu Jun 19 09:12:06 PM EDT 2003
can you find me a friend in a high place with a sewing machine????

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:12:11 PM EDT 2003
Well, Laura B. and I have teen daughters who can babysit the little ones for a couple of hours, I think, so you moms can chat uninterrupted. We have a very busy schedule, but we could work it out somehow.

debstevian Mom of Ian, 2, dx'd @ 10 1/2 months  (64.72.81.216) Thu Jun 19 09:12:56 PM EDT 2003
iansmommy...are you coming early?

iansmommy Mom of Ian, 31/2, dx'd at 15months  (12.90.25.30) Thu Jun 19 09:13:03 PM EDT 2003
We will be there on the 9th-wasn't sure how Ian would do. It is his first time on a plane-long trip from Pa

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:13:26 PM EDT 2003
Lauren, Jeff's mom is on the 11th floor of her bldg and that's the top floor. LOL  We still have a few of her pre-made backs on which you can put photos or whatever.

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:13:37 PM EDT 2003
We'll be getting in on Sunday the 6th. The conference keeps me hopping, but I hope to get at least some pool time with everyone! Or - if it's raining - I understand my hotel room is 'headquarters' for the registration packet stuffing!

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, Cozmo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:13:42 PM EDT 2003
Sorry I'm late.

Kriss Mom of Paige age 9.5 dxd @ 3  (64.18.33.143) Thu Jun 19 09:13:55 PM EDT 2003
This is the first trip for our 2 daughters as well. We are flying in from Ohio.

Dave dad of Jake  (67.85.20.189) Thu Jun 19 09:14:01 PM EDT 2003
I am just putting my registration forms in the envelope to mail out tomorrow and saw that childcare needed to be registered by the 15th. Is there really no chance in getting in now?

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:14:07 PM EDT 2003
Ooooh, Ellen, when did Z. switch pumps?

Connie (VA) Mother of Brooke, almost 5, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.93.9) Thu Jun 19 09:14:30 PM EDT 2003
Don't mention the 'r' word, Laura! We've had ENOUGH of that here!

Lauren Volunteer coordinator  (12.86.9.231) Thu Jun 19 09:14:31 PM EDT 2003
I am planning a pool day on Sunday if anyone is around... pool and shuttle service  Wink

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, Cozmo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:14:41 PM EDT 2003
Last week - took me 8 years to decide on another one LOL

iansmommy Mom of Ian, 31/2, dx'd at 15months  (12.90.25.30) Thu Jun 19 09:14:48 PM EDT 2003
debstevian...are you staying at the coronado

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:15:05 PM EDT 2003
Dave - FAX to me tonight or tomorrow. I'm sending the info to Animas tomorrow afternoon. After that, we'll need a cancellation to fit others in. (you can email me the forms as an attachment if you don't have fax)

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:15:15 PM EDT 2003
Cool, Ellen. Hope it goes well.

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, Cozmo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:16:04 PM EDT 2003
Thanks.
Did we have to sign up for sessions? I assumed that it was going to be like the past 3 summer CWD conferences - decide moments before each session starts LOL

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:16:06 PM EDT 2003
I hope it'll be all rained out by the time we get there. In 2000 for our first conference, it was so dry that there were fires all over the place. Anyone remember that? My kids wanted to know why it smelled like a BBQ in Orlando.

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:16:08 PM EDT 2003
Laura B.--are a lot of kids signed up for the childcare this yr?

Kriss Mom of Paige age 9.5 dxd @ 3  (64.18.33.143) Thu Jun 19 09:16:16 PM EDT 2003
Brenda, we are in northeastern Ohio near Youngstown.

debstevian Mom of Ian, 2, dx'd @ 10 1/2 months  (64.72.81.216) Thu Jun 19 09:16:22 PM EDT 2003

everyone ian says hello and cannot wait to meet some new friends

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:17:04 PM EDT 2003
Yep, Kriss, that's pretty far from here!

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:17:10 PM EDT 2003
No, you don't have to sign up for sessions. Just show up - like other years. However, it will be more crowded. The general sessions (the big ones) will seat 720, and we'll be in rounds vs. theater style. Which means you can have a cup of coffee on the table, writing stuff, etc. The other rooms are smaller and set with just chairs.

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:17:44 PM EDT 2003
However, if you are putting a child with diabetes (or another health problem) in childcare, you DO need to complete the medical information form that says which sessions we'll find you in. Just in case.

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, Cozmo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:17:45 PM EDT 2003
Hi Ian. My son was 15 months old when he was diagnosed too. Wait until you see how BIG he is now at 15 years old !

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:18:08 PM EDT 2003
87 kids in childcare.

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:18:37 PM EDT 2003
Guess that's a lot. How many of them have diabetes?

Dave dad of Jake  (67.85.20.189) Thu Jun 19 09:18:49 PM EDT 2003
Thank you so much, I will fax the chilcare form and send everything else with check tomorrow

iansmommy Mom of Ian, 31/2, dx'd at 15months  (12.90.25.30) Thu Jun 19 09:18:52 PM EDT 2003
Laura would you have emailed me if you did receive the form for childcare

Connie (VA) Mother of Brooke, almost 5, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.93.9) Thu Jun 19 09:18:55 PM EDT 2003
What will the kids in childcare be doing during the day?

iansmommy Mom of Ian, 31/2, dx'd at 15months  (12.90.25.30) Thu Jun 19 09:20:26 PM EDT 2003
will the kids be learning things about diabetes too in child care

Lauren Volunteer coordinator  (12.86.9.231) Thu Jun 19 09:20:26 PM EDT 2003
my kids have always had a blast in childcare... lots of crafts and fun things to do... are the same people doing the childcare that did it last time?

Dave dad of Jake  (67.85.20.189) Thu Jun 19 09:20:41 PM EDT 2003
Where can I get info on the sessions for Friday? I have the thursday sessions but can't find Friday's

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:20:44 PM EDT 2003
Connie, Laura knows most everything, but I think they will do arts and crafts, cool kid stuff.

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:21:07 PM EDT 2003
Half have diabetes. No, I didn't mail confirmations for childcare. Email me privately if you're not sure you're signed up.
Childcare is largely games (big and small), art, videos, plus a couple of really fun visits from Zippora Karz (ballerina from NYC Ballet) who will be doing movement to music with the kids. It's a lot of fun. Most kids cry when they have to live. Just to warn you!

Julia/A2angelmom mom to Ethan 5 dx @ 10mo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:21:24 PM EDT 2003
My kids can't wait for the childcare. They bring so many things home theyy make. They call it Disney Camp

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:21:27 PM EDT 2003
Dave, Friday's events are for moms only.  Wink  Hold on and I'l find the page.

iansmommy Mom of Ian, 31/2, dx'd at 15months  (12.90.25.30) Thu Jun 19 09:22:24 PM EDT 2003
if they have problems in child care can they leave early and try again next day

Connie (VA) Mother of Brooke, almost 5, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.93.9) Thu Jun 19 09:22:37 PM EDT 2003
Lauren, about the margarita party Monday night -- is this for real or just a 'marketing' ploy to grab volunteers?

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:22:49 PM EDT 2003
The kids do learn about diabetes in childcare, but it's on a different level. They learn by watching, asking questions, etc. I'll bet most of them have not been in the room while 45 other kids get tested and have snack! They talk about diabetes stuff when the topics come up vs having scheduled talks about it.

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:23:31 PM EDT 2003
If the child has problems in childcare, yes, of course you can try again the next day. It isn't for everyone... but it is for most little people. Smile

Lauren Volunteer coordinator  (12.86.9.231) Thu Jun 19 09:24:00 PM EDT 2003
I really bring margaritas! maybe not enough for 30 people to drink all night... but enough.  Grin

Kriss Mom of Paige age 9.5 dxd @ 3  (64.18.33.143) Thu Jun 19 09:24:11 PM EDT 2003
My 5 year old (non D) is sitting here with me and getting so excited about what I am reading her about the child care. She was really excited to know she gets to meet the "ballerina"

Jay Diabetic 29 years  (151.199.239.89) Thu Jun 19 09:24:17 PM EDT 2003
Sorry everyone. I have to go. A friend of the family is on the phone. She needs to talk to us for support. I'll fill you in.

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:25:00 PM EDT 2003
Lauren - yes, same staff as two years ago, but different name. They are now called Kids Nite Out. Do you remember Loretta? She was in charge two years ago - she's running it again this year. Animas is staffing it with CDEs for diabetes care. This is their 3rd year doing this, and they are incredible.

Connie (VA) Mother of Brooke, almost 5, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.93.9) Thu Jun 19 09:25:05 PM EDT 2003
Ok, just double checking -- didn't want to be the only one with a blender, bottle of tequila and margarita mix! LOL

Kari Rosenfeld Mom to Teen-Clare, Dx 93  (67.250.105.33) Thu Jun 19 09:25:15 PM EDT 2003
Jay, come back, I just joined in!

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:25:15 PM EDT 2003
Bye, Jay. Hope everything is ok.

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, Cozmo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:25:17 PM EDT 2003
Will htere be any other margarita parties at night once Orlando 2003 starts? Is the pool open at night?

I can't wait to see our littlest ballerinas when they meet Zippora! Bring cameras!

Lauren Volunteer coordinator  (12.86.9.231) Thu Jun 19 09:25:55 PM EDT 2003
They had a jumpy thing in there, disney dress up cothes, lots of crafts... I was dragging my kids out of childcare.

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:26:12 PM EDT 2003
The ballerina is excited about meeting your daughter as well! She actually ASKED to come to our conference to be involved with all the children. Zippora loves kids.

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:27:38 PM EDT 2003
The ballerinas helping Zippora on Weds aren't very little. They are young ladies, ages 7 (I think) to 13. A very good group. Zippora asked me to let everyone know that she is very available to talk with any child who would like to talk with her. Kids shouldn't be afraid to come up to her to talk. She is very kind.  Smile

Lauren Volunteer coordinator  (12.86.9.231) Thu Jun 19 09:28:07 PM EDT 2003
I will put reminders in everyones registration packets with volunteer stuff... everything except registration stuffing

Kriss Mom of Paige age 9.5 dxd @ 3  (64.18.33.143) Thu Jun 19 09:28:44 PM EDT 2003
I found a bunch of info about Zippora online and printed it for Paige and she is reading it as we speak. This has just made it even more exciting for her.

Did everyone see that one of the exhibitors is bringing a rock climbing wall? It will be set up right in the exhibit hall in a 10x10 booth space.

Kari Rosenfeld Mom to Teen-Clare, Dx 93  (67.250.105.33) Thu Jun 19 09:34:53 PM EDT 2003
Ellen, I had the pleasure of making a didge with Hamish and his band last year. It was SO much fun. Our kids are going to love this. And the sounds they make...just wait. As I said before, I never made it past making bathroom noises with mine. Plumberoo OH YEAH!

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, Cozmo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:34:55 PM EDT 2003
Oh that's awesome Laura. I don't know how you manage to make every year even better than the previous one! KUDOS TO YOU...and thank you for all you do to make this such a spectacular and warm and loving event.

Is it true we will need an extra suitcase for goodies from the conference?

Lauren Volunteer coordinator  (12.86.9.231) Thu Jun 19 09:35:20 PM EDT 2003
You will find my Monica, perced on the climbing wall for sure... she love them

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:35:21 PM EDT 2003
If any of your teens are interested, I think some of the ones I know are heading over to Blizzard Beach or Typhoon Lagoon on Tuesday. Natalie Bellini (from Animas, but for the purposes of this conference she is Faculty) has volunteered to go with them.

Kari Rosenfeld Mom to Teen-Clare, Dx 93  (67.250.105.33) Thu Jun 19 09:36:06 PM EDT 2003
Looks like there is a full line up in the exhibit hall of fun things to do.

Kriss Mom of Paige age 9.5 dxd @ 3  (64.18.33.143) Thu Jun 19 09:36:13 PM EDT 2003
Laura, I am amazed at all that you do setting all of this up. I was telling our new CDE that we met with yesterday about all of this ( the website included) She was very impressed and plans to attend some of the future conferences.

iansmommy Mom of Ian, 31/2, dx'd at 15months  (12.90.25.30) Thu Jun 19 09:36:22 PM EDT 2003
Can children younger than school age get involved in the sessions-like the one with Hammish

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:36:43 PM EDT 2003
Yes, definitely bring an extra suitcase. Thanks for the kind words, Ellen. This is a very fun conference to pull together. It has a life of its own!

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:36:49 PM EDT 2003
We Hitchcocks are planning on Blizzard Beach on Tues. Kathryn, non-D, will be 13 on 7/10 during the Conference so she selected BB as her bday party.

Kari Rosenfeld Mom to Teen-Clare, Dx 93  (67.250.105.33) Thu Jun 19 09:36:58 PM EDT 2003
iansmommy, I ALWAYS bring an extra suitcase just for that purpose and yes, it gets filled up.

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:37:25 PM EDT 2003
Nope - the kids have to be 7 to do the didge session. It's a matter of safety (hot wax) and space. Hamish will come visit with the younger kids, and I bet he'll bring his didge along.

Kriss Mom of Paige age 9.5 dxd @ 3  (64.18.33.143) Thu Jun 19 09:38:00 PM EDT 2003
My brainstorm for the extra suitcase is to fill one with bottles of water and snacks and then it will be empty for the return trip home!

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, Cozmo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:38:03 PM EDT 2003
Brenda, you got a new bikini for BB?

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:38:18 PM EDT 2003
Laura, I will try to call you tomorrow about getting a cake to share, too. Found a great bakery in Orlando via The Food Network on t.v. I gained 10 lbs. just watching the show.  Smile

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, Cozmo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:38:36 PM EDT 2003
Will there be water to drink all day during the sessions?

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:38:49 PM EDT 2003
Kriss, sounds like a good plan.

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:39:15 PM EDT 2003
Ellen, I haven't worn a bikini in about 30 years.

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:39:30 PM EDT 2003
Also - in a more general sense - younger kids need to stay in the childcare area or with their folks in the adult sessions. The school-age sessions are for kids 7-11, and we have space pretty much just for that group (actually, we're filled to the gills right now). Also, from a supervision standpoint, we do not do blood glucose testing of kids in the school-age sessions. We DO do testing in childcare. Kids younger than 7 need to either be in childcare or with their folks.

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, Cozmo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:39:40 PM EDT 2003
Neither have I Brenda...

Connie (VA) Mother of Brooke, almost 5, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.93.9) Thu Jun 19 09:39:52 PM EDT 2003
So, who is it that is stopping by for the celebrity session? LOL

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:40:38 PM EDT 2003
There will be water in every session. There will be coffee and iced tea service all day Thurs and Fri in the exhibit hall (another new feature!). Also, this year, boxed lunches will be served Thurs and Fri. You can take the boxed lunches to the exhibit hall, to the pool, to the playground, out by the lake... wherever!

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:41:06 PM EDT 2003
The celebrity sessions are the Didge sessions. And there may be one more surprise. It's still under my hat.  Rolling Eyes

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, Cozmo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:41:22 PM EDT 2003
Are vegetarian boxed lunches a choice?

Kari Rosenfeld Mom to Teen-Clare, Dx 93  (67.250.105.33) Thu Jun 19 09:41:41 PM EDT 2003
Ellen, is Zack going to be working the IDYA booth?

Connie (VA) Mother of Brooke, almost 5, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.93.9) Thu Jun 19 09:41:42 PM EDT 2003
 LOL Laura!

Kari Rosenfeld Mom to Teen-Clare, Dx 93  (67.250.105.33) Thu Jun 19 09:42:30 PM EDT 2003
Oh for Pete sake Julia, you are one person who could get away with wearing a bikini and REALLY look good. See if I sit next to you at the pool!  LOL

Connie (VA) Mother of Brooke, almost 5, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.93.9) Thu Jun 19 09:42:33 PM EDT 2003
Laura, are the sandwiches for the boxed lunches made without mayo/mustard, etc?

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:42:40 PM EDT 2003
Also... Will Cross is a new addition to the faculty. Does anyone remember him from this winter? He has type 1 diabetes, and he trekked from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole, with his dad. He will be in sessions with our kids on stress management - one with the teens and one with the school-age. He'll also be meet-able at the Novo Nordisk booth.

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, Cozmo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:42:51 PM EDT 2003

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, Cozmo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:44:48 PM EDT 2003

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:45:52 PM EDT 2003
The boxed lunches - actually all the menus - are all available to see on the website. http://www.childrenwithdiabetes.com/activities/orlando2003/menus.htm

At this point, I cannot make changes in the food. The accompaniments are on the side for the box lunches. Chicken caesar salad is an option. If you need veggie for lunch, let me know by tomorrow. It will be a salad with cheese and garbanzo beans instead of chicken. I've already sent in numbers of things, but I can add a veggie or two (just for lunch).

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:45:59 PM EDT 2003
Ellen, maybe they need to create an IDYA video game. That might get Z. interested. Smile

Also, remember that we serve a TON of food. You have no idea. It seems like we're eating every 90 minutes or so! Breakfast from 8-9. Snack breaks from 10:15 - 10:45, lunch from noon to 1:30, snack breaks from 2:45 - 3:15... food food food!

There are a lot of children in ALL age ranges. Picture 500 children. Actually, more like 600-700 once all is said and done. Yes, there will be a lot of toddlers.  Grin

Kim Mom of Alex, 4, dx'd at 18 months  (64.252.82.133) Thu Jun 19 09:51:02 PM EDT 2003
Hi there Kari!
Everything about these conferences are wonderful (except if you get sick or wind up with frozen insulin, right Brenda?)

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, Cozmo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:51:06 PM EDT 2003
Oh you mentioned the word "picture" - want to plug the collage? (I still haven't sent in a pic!)

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:51:21 PM EDT 2003
Some of the kids sessions will be all together. Others, we'll break the kids into sub-groups by age. Others, we'll deliberately have smaller groups, but have older kids helping younger kids. Lauren is arranging for parent helpers in each session as well. Plus each kids session has at least one CDE as faculty.

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:52:07 PM EDT 2003
Julia - Talk about the collage?

Julia/A2angelmom mom to Ethan 5 dx @ 10mo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:52:24 PM EDT 2003
Just getting ready to do that....you all better get them in to me....you'll be sorry if you don't

Kim Mom of Alex, 4, dx'd at 18 months  (64.252.82.133) Thu Jun 19 09:52:50 PM EDT 2003
Hi Lauren! Yep, check your inbox (sent a message to Laura by mistake also). Kids would be great, so Emily could join me - but I'll go where you need the most help.

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 09:53:03 PM EDT 2003
Yes, Kim, that's right! Not really in full Conference mode yet. First, I have to survive Marissa attending camp next week, her first non-D camp. Have to find a secure box for all her supplies; needs to be double closed, I think, to keep racoons out of the food!

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:53:04 PM EDT 2003
I just pulled out the numbers... last count there were 40 kids under age 3.

debstevian Mom of Ian, 2, dx'd @ 10 1/2 months  (64.72.81.216) Thu Jun 19 09:53:19 PM EDT 2003
iansmommy...maybe we can meet up on Wednesday night at the hotel, maybe in the exhibit area. How can we coordinate something? Would you like to call me once you get settled and we can meet?

I can't wait to see the new quilts added to "The Quilt For Life" since our last showing. Anyone who doesn't have one for your child, you will after this conference. Bring kleenex!

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 09:56:41 PM EDT 2003
Dave - If you're still on, I got your fax, and you need to send the Medical Information sheet, too. Not just the childcare registration form. It's on the same webpage as childcare registration - it's called childcare information. Ok?

Julia/A2angelmom mom to Ethan 5 dx @ 10mo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 09:56:50 PM EDT 2003

It's OK Kim, we all lose it viewing the quilt. It's magic! Our kids are magic!

Lauren Volunteer coordinator  (12.86.9.231) Thu Jun 19 09:59:37 PM EDT 2003
We will be setting up the quilt at 12:45 on Wednesday. If anyone is interested....

Kriss Mom of Paige age 9.5 dxd @ 3  (64.18.33.143) Thu Jun 19 09:59:38 PM EDT 2003
I can't wait to see the quilts as well. The list inspired me to create one quickly for Paige and mail it off. I cried just making hers and that was after I cried looking at the others on the web site.

Connie (VA) Mother of Brooke, almost 5, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.93.9) Thu Jun 19 09:59:58 PM EDT 2003

Connie (VA) Mother of Brooke, almost 5, dx'd 8/02  (68.100.93.9) Thu Jun 19 10:00:50 PM EDT 2003
Lauren/Laura, any POC to reach if we have any free time to see if we could pitch in at the 'last minute' to help with something prior to conference kicking off?

Kim Mom of Alex, 4, dx'd at 18 months  (64.252.82.133) Thu Jun 19 10:00:55 PM EDT 2003
Magic Kari....that's really special.

Ellen (FL) Zack 15, Cozmo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 10:01:17 PM EDT 2003
Will there be boxes of tissues in every session?

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 10:01:28 PM EDT 2003
Actually, Jeff and I were really amazed by one that came about 2 wks ago, not that it is any nicer than the others, but that it came all the way from American Samoa!

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 10:01:33 PM EDT 2003
A reminder for those folks who haven't yet registered, but who might read this transcript in the next week or so. I am only taking faxed and mailed registrations through July 1. After that, you'll need to register on site at Disney. And if you are still in the process of making a quilt square, bring it along and get it to Brenda by Weds noon. We can always add it on.

Lauren Volunteer coordinator  (12.86.9.231) Thu Jun 19 10:01:39 PM EDT 2003
Connie, come to the registration desk and find me, Lauren Lanning

Kim Mom of Alex, 4, dx'd at 18 months  (64.252.82.133) Thu Jun 19 10:02:15 PM EDT 2003

iansmommy Mom of Ian, 31/2, dx'd at 15months  (12.90.25.30) Thu Jun 19 10:03:05 PM EDT 2003
So it would be best to bring quilts at this point?

Kari Rosenfeld Mom to Teen-Clare, Dx 93  (67.250.105.33) Thu Jun 19 10:03:14 PM EDT 2003
Brenda, you should have seen the faces of people at the ADA conference when they stopped by our booth to see the quilts Jeff brought. In a room filled with professional people, medical and science folks, our little kids and their quilts stole the show!

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 10:03:34 PM EDT 2003
Well, it's 10:00 so I need to officially end the chat. However, the room will stay open for awhile if you want to keep talking.

Yes, there will be plenty of kleenex! (Actually, Kari, put that on your to-do list for when we get there... check out the kleenex stash and make sure they are stocked up!)

Julia/A2angelmom mom to Ethan 5 dx @ 10mo  (64.12.96.46) Thu Jun 19 10:03:47 PM EDT 2003
Cheryl the collage is a collection of picture of all the children attending the confrence

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 10:04:03 PM EDT 2003
Hmm, as I recall, if you go down a passageway between a bar and the food area of the hotel, you go straight, then down to the right. That's IF you are starting on the water side of the hotel.

Brenda H. Mom of Marissa, 15, dx/d 9/89  (216.68.227.14) Thu Jun 19 10:04:30 PM EDT 2003
Yes, iansmommy, because we are shipping them soon and they are packed already.

This is the last conference chat. Please feel free to email me with specific questions and I can get the responses out to the entire list.
Reminder: The convention center is all under one roof. Things are very close this year IN the convention center. However the rooms and the hotel itself are quite spread out. So, wear walking shoes. We will have a couple of small shuttles running around the lake on Thurs and Fri from 8-4, so if you need a quick ride back to your room or to the pool to check on the kids (playing hookie), that will help.

Billetdeaux CWD Events  (68.40.217.40) Thu Jun 19 10:08:53 PM EDT 2003

Sonia: I had trouble managing during physical excersise. I give her 25 to 30 Carbs before the exersise. I disconnect the pump. After 2 hours, her reading will be 120 to 150. But I had to give her atleast 2 units of humolog to maintain her levels at 150. Could you explain this phenomena.

Sai Dad of Sai,. 4, dxd at 1  (24.165.152.159) Thu Jun 19 11:22:44 PM EDT 2003
And any tips on managing during Phisical Excersise.

Sai Dad of Sai,. 4, dxd at 1  (24.165.152.159) Thu Jun 19 11:24:23 PM EDT 2003
Around 150 to 180
