ADHD is a frequent diagnosis in children, and hence there are frequent questions about whether it is related to diabetes. In particular, there have been queries as to whether some of the symptoms of ADHD might in reality be a form of hypoglycemia. ADHD is not, however, a disorder of the immune system and shares no causal basis with type 1 diabetes.

Inevitably there will be some children who have both disorders, and having ADHD might make it more difficult to control diabetes. Fortunately, medications used for ADHD can be used safely by those people who also have diabetes.
