Innovation in lancing devices and lancets has been more about decreasing the diameter of the lancet than figuring out a better way -- until now. The ACCU-CHEK Multiclix uses a six-lancet drum that hides the lancet from view at all times, making it as safe as you can get and the perfect lancing device for kids, especially at school. It comes with two caps, a blue one for use on the fingertips and a clear one for use on alternate sites. Highly recommended. The Multiclix operates a bit differently from traditional lancing devices, but it is easy to use once you get the hang of it. First you remove the cap and insert a drum. You then replace the cap and you're ready to go. You cock the Multiclix by pushing the end in. You'll see the clear button turn yellow when it's ready to use. To advance to the next lancet, you twist the end a quarter turn. However, you can continue to use any one of the six lancets as long as you like, meaning that for most people, the six lancets in one drum will provide for many days -- if not weeks -- of blood samples. Note that reusing a lancet is off label use and is not endorsed by Roche. A new, unused Multiclix drum (left) and one that has been used (right). You can't insert a used drum back into the Multiclix lancing device, but you can reuse the lancets as often as you like. The Multiclix will stand out at school because the lancet itself is never exposed, essentially eliminating the risk of an accidental stick. For kids at school, this means that the Multiclix is, right now, the best lancing device available.
