The Gluc-O-BarTM slow release glucose bar is a medical food designed to help reduce the risk of hypoglycemia by releasing glucose for up to nine hours. The bar contains different sources of glucose, including protein and uncooked cornstarch. It is these two ingredients that provide the prolonged glucose release.
Because the Gluc-O-Bar contains ingredients that release glucose slowly, it should not be used to treat an insulin reaction. Rather, it is designed to help prevent insulin reactions. The Gluc-O-Bar makes an excellent nighttime snack for anyone using insulin and can help reduce the risk of nighttime hypoglycemia.
The Gluc-O-Bar comes in three flavors: Strawberry-Banana (110 calories), Real Chocolate (120 calories), and Peanut Butter (120 calories).
