  Back to Meters Accu
Overview

The Accu-Chek Complete is Roche's advanced data management meter. It combines the proven test strip technology from the Accu-Chek Advantage with the most sophisticated diabetes management software and hardware ever used in a home glucose monitor. The Accu-Chek Complete Comfort Curve test strips come in a vial and can be handled without impairing their accuracy.

The Comfort Curve test strips are easier to use than the older strips. With side-fill capillary action, you need only touch the drop of blood to the side of the test strip and the blood is sucked into the strip. The Comfort Curve strips are much easier to use than previous Advantage test strips and require less blood. However, the Comfort Curve strips still require 3 microliters of blood and take 26 seconds to produce results. Because of the large blood volume and slow test time, the Accu-Chek Complete is not the best choice for use by kids with type 1 diabetes.

Testing
Testing with the Accu-Chek Complete is easy. Like the Accu-Chek Advantage, each vial of test strips comes with a snap-in key that calibrates the meter to the test strips. After inserting a test strip, the Accu-Chek Complete turns on automatically. The large display is very easy to read. Much like automatic teller machines, the function of the buttons on the Accu-Chek Complete change depending upon what you're doing. The bottom of the display always indicates what each button's function is. A backlight makes it very easy to read the display, even in total darkness.

After applying an ample drop of blood, the meter begins its countdown, showing you a graphical status bar that grows from left to right as the test progresses. After fifteen seconds, the meter beeps to let you know that you can no longer add more blood to the test strip. Up until that time, you can add more blood if there's not enough. After 26 seconds, the test results are displayed.

Features
Key features of the Accu-Chek Complete include:

  • Dot matrix display (65 rows by 102 columns) for display of prompts, test results, and graphs of trends
  • Test results in 26 seconds
  • 1,000 memories and sophisticated diabetes management software integrated into the meter
  • Extensive averaging as part of integrated diabetes management software
  • Data port for external interface to computer software
  • Uses two standard AAA alkaline batteries (rated for approximately 1,000 tests)
  • Displays blood sugar readings in mg/dL or mmol/L and prompts in four languages
  • Three year warranty

Summary
While other makers of blood glucose meters are shrinking their products, Roche Diagnostics is doing just the opposite. With dimensions of 4.79" x 2.83" x 1.06" [121.7mm x 72.0mm x 27.0mm] and weighing 4.4 oz [125 g] without batteries, the Accu-Chek Complete is much larger than its predescessor, the Accu-Chek Advantage. It's also full of new and sophisticated diabetes management software features that with other meters require the use of a personal computer and separate software. If the size of the meter and the amount of blood needed don't bother you, and you will use the sophisticated, built-in diabetes management software, then the Accu-Chek Complete will serve you well.

The reviews of products are the opinion of children with DIABETES. Each product is reviewed with a single purpose: to determine if the product is suitable for use by children with type 1 diabetes, their parents, and, to a lesser degree, adults with type 1 diabetes. There are many products aimed at adults with type 2 diabetes that are not appropriate or suitable for children or adults with type 1 diabetes.
