Amira Medical Receives FDA Clearance to Market New Blood Glucose Testing Device
The Food and Drug Administration has given market clearance to Amira Medical to sell its AtLastTM Blood Glucose System. The AtLast system is designed to obtain blood samples from the forearm, thigh, or upper arm, areas which have fewer nerve endings than fingertips. The company believes that the AtLast system is less painful to use than traditional fingertip lancets. The AtLast system contains both the lancing device and the blood glucose meter, making it an "all-in-one" product. The system will be sold at prices comparable to meters and test strips already on the market and will be available via mail order in the second quarter of 1999.
