JDF Legislative Alert: Status of NIH Funding
Here is an update on the funding bill for medical research, more specifically diabetes research funding through the National Institutes of Health (NIH). This is just an update and not a call to arms.
July 29, 1996The Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Labor, HHS, and Education has postponed their previously scheduled mid-July mark-up of H.R. 3755, the FY 1997 Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations bill, until after Labor Day. This postponement signals the real possibility that funding for the NIH may be included in a long-term Continuing Resolution (CR) that would fund all programs, which have not received annual appropriations by the start of the new fiscal year (October 1st), through March of 1997.
Members of the House and Senate begin their traditional August recess on Saturday, August 3rd, and are not scheduled to be back in D.C. until Wednesday, September 4th. When we hear more, we will let you know. Stay tuned.
