NIH Funding Status

FY '98 House and Senate AppropriationsAs of yesterday afternoon, the House and Senate completed work on their respective versions of the Labor, HHS and Education Appropriations bill. The House approved version, H.R. 2264, contains a $765 million, or 6 percent increase for the NIH, and an increase of approximately $61.2 million, or 7.5 percent for the NIDDK!
The Senate approved version, S. 1061, provides an increase of roughly $952 million or 7.5 percent for the NIH, and, more importantly, an increase of approximately $70.2 million, or 8.6 percent, for the NIDDK!
The differences between the House and Senate versions of the bill will be worked out in the Conference Committee in the weeks to come. We will keep you informed of the results.
