Diabetes Research Working Group Recommends Significant New Research Investment
February 25, 1999Noting that since 1981, funding for diabetes research has fallen 30% relative to the overall NIH budget, while at the same time the death rate from diabetes has increased 30%, a Congressionally-established working group of diabetes experts called for the US to increase dramatically its investment in diabetes research. The report, entitled Conquering Diabetes, A Strategic Plan for the 21st Century, makes specific recommendations for how an additional $4.1 billion be spent over the next five years.
